The key is determining at what point you cut bait. These three players are fortunate that they will be playing for a team that will be able to give them some extra time to learn to pitch.

The leash is a bit longer for the Tiger players, for sure. Jimenez is quickly learning that you can get away with stuff and velocity in the minors, but not so much in The Show. Major league hitters eat poorly-located 97 MPH fastballs for lunch.

This off season is going to be real important for us ... not so much the players, but the manager and coaching staff they bring in next year. I pray they don't resign Ausmus.

Yep, with a mostly young staff, coaching will be crucial over the next few years. No more Ausmus and no more Dubee. Probably have to take a hard look at the minor league pitching coaches, too.

Detroit will have to dip into the free agent market this winter in order to field any type of decent team. I'm not suggesting they go "top-of-the-line", but they will need to sign a couple (or three) dependable, if not great, arms for the pitching staff. No $9mil a year middle relief pitcher, I hope. And no Mike Pelfrey. They may also need a veteran outfielder while they wait for Mike Gerber and Christian Stewart to take over.
