Verlander has the 3rd highest BB/9 in MLB. I think some numbers need to be re-crunched.

Yes, his walk rate has been alarming. I don't expect this to be a year-long thing, but it's definitely hurting him right now.

I guess I should throw in some more negativity about the Tigers while I'm at it. Catcher James McCann is rated 18th defensively among the 18 catchers with 200 or more innings caught. Fangraphs has him at the bottom in WAR and fielding, among "regular" catchers. His low BA and +power is known. That kind of offense is acceptable from a catcher if you can throw in good defense and throw out runners. Unfortunately...McCann's defense is sliding down hill with his BA.

All in all....when your team has the worst ERA in the league, a team BA of .241, and a confused closer situation....Detroit is fortunate to be at .500.

But let's look at the subject, brought up by dougplayer....our poster boy for mandatory genetic screening before all conception.

Jacoby Jones....given the early nod as THE centerfielder. Hit .150, striking out almost 50% of his ABs. Now in Toledo! Mikki Mahtook...batting under .200 and becoming a non-entity on the team. Tyler Collins....the current "go-to" CFer is hitting an exciting .230 with 2 HRs, no SB, and 8 RBI. Perhaps the teams' best CF is utility man Andrew Romine who has hit .240 (when playing the OF - .230 total) with a grandslam homer!.
Yep....CF has been a KEY contributing factor in the Detroit offense. LOL

(Doug...the walking, talking borderline human, totally lacks the intellectual ability to understand sarcasm. I will leave him to, what must surely be, the psychotic hell of his own mind.)
