BVG better get his act together. U heard Kelly on one of the radio shows that there are no more excused for the D. Meaning this is it for BVG. I though last year was it but Kelly is giving him 1 more year.
After what happened at Stanford I wouldn't have let him on the plane, IMO. I don't think that was the difference between making the playoffs or not, but like it or not, Stanford is essentially a mirror program of ND. National prominence, high academic standards and they've been winning, and winning more against ND as of late. You lose to them, then you lose the recruiting battle with them. BVG gave away a huge road win and we haven't won in Palo Alto in a long time.

I don't know if Zaire wins out or not. And if not, I am not sure he transfers either, because he'd lose a year. He's already redshirted. He may grad transfer the following year in which case he wouldn't have to sit out.

I feel for the guy though. He cooled his heels behind Golson, when some think Golson probably had too much of a leash to screw up. Then he wins, looks great in camp and the opener, and has a horrific injury to end his season, and through no fault of his own, Kizer steps up and steps up big time. We're lucky to have both of them.
He might lose a year. I think him and Kelly have an understanding and Kelly would let him go with out losing a year. MZ was such a great teammate last year that I dont think Kelly will take the year away from him.

Well I hate to say it, but I think some of the interaction might have been played up for the Showtime cameras a bit. I think Kelly will give MZ every chance he can get. He certainly has earned that right. But the only way he wouldn't lose a year if he transferred now is if he went to an FCS school.

not if the school ok the release of his scholarship. He goes to a school that ND doesnt play in the next 2 years I think they would give the ok.

That's fair enough. Although one wonders if Kelly would be cool with that. Having such experience on the bench is crucial. I am sure Wimbush wouldn't mind because he'd get more snaps.

I think he loses the year of eligibility regardless of whether or not ND releases the scholarship. That's an NCAA rule.

It is definitely an NCAA rule, but purguy might be right that it can be waived. Purpose of the rule is to prevent jumping from team to team or as a sanction for keeping players from jumping around. The member schools would want such a rule to discourage transfers. Seems to me if ND really didn't care (and I'm not sure they wouldn't, if for no other reason than to avoid creating precedent), they could "waive" the requirement. But, again, allowing it now would only encourage others to try so there's some downside to it.

I think it can be waived, but only if you're going to a FCS school, or playing a sport other than football, basketball, baseball or hockey, or your school has dropped the sport you're playing, or you have graduated from your first school. A school can deny your application to transfer to schools that meet certain criteria (same conference, on the schedule) but I think the one year waiting period cannot be waived by a team.

I feel like they both have been winning at home in that series lately.

ND has the all time series against stanford. ND is 19-11 against Stanford. The last 4 times we have played we have split. We win at home they win at home. Before that Stanford won 3 in a row and then ND won 7 in a row.

Outside of alumni, I don't know if I have ever met anyone who is a "fan" of Stanford. Its very odd, but in a way you have to commend the job they did. Everyone assumed a dropoff when Harbaugh left. Shaw's been there what, six years now, and still they're a perennial favorite for the Pac 12 north and have done well in major bowls. They do this with almost no institutional support and minimal alumni support.

Got to admire, if not envy what they've been able to accomplish.

For all the griping that there isn't enough support for ND football from the faculty and the collars, they get way, way way more than Stanford, and pretty clearly have done less over the same period of time.

Yes, before we split the last 4, Stanford won three in a row. Those were the three years that Andrew Luck played QB at Stanford. Not counting the "Luck" years, our record versus Stanford is 9-2 over the last eleven years. True, many of those were years when Stanford stunk, but it will be interesting to see if Stanford can continue their level of play once the Luck influence has passed, and by influence I mean the strong recruiting classes that they put together during and after Luck was there. This year will tell a lot in that respect.

Agreed. I think more than ever, we are in a dead heat for recruits (Osirus St. Brown for example) of the same type of caliber and character. I don't view recruiting battle losses to the likes of Ohio St. or even USC (who we play more frequently) than Stanford. We've always had different style players than USC so we can overcome those recruiting losses, but Stanford it seems we are in direct competition to because of what we can sell the recruits and their parents.
