Some moves this week involving big name prospects as the second half of the minor league season begins:

OF Mac Williamson, LHP Josh Osich and 2B Kelby Tomlinson have all been promoted to AAA Sacramento.

OF Hunter Cole and 2B/OF Austin Slater have been promoted to AA Richmond.

A few demotions as well. Carbonell has been sent to San Jose from Richmond. I am sure there are more, but these dont get "announced" so you just have to trip over them...

With all the new kids getting placed on rosters, there will likely be a few releases in the coming days as well.

I also think we're gonna see Crick DL'd, or even demoted. He needs some side work. The kid's last 3 starts have been horrendous, and his season line is disturbing as well. 42 IP, 41 Ks, 40 BBs. I think he's destined for the Pen. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Look at what Wade Davis, Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller have all done. Former starters, all with nasty stuff. Struggled with command or mechanical problems, but transitioned into the pen, simplified their mechanics and have become dominant relievers able to pitch a high volume of innings a season.

I could see Mella getting the call to Richmond and Crick getting removed for a bit.

Something needs to be done with Crick. This season has been an unmitigated disaster for him.

I try not to look at stats TOO much for acknowledged high-level prospects, but these numbers are too horrid to ignore.

The Giants announced that Mella and Beede are their representatives for the Futures game.

I REALLY think that Beede will be given an outside shot at an opening day rotation spot next year. He MAY get a cuppo this year, as well.

With Mac's promotion yesterday, I think it is almost a guarantee that he will get his cuppo this year.

It was a real long shot, but Williamson was discussed as a possible replacement for Aoki. I agree on both, their times are near. Beede has stumbled a little bit his last couple starts in AA with command, something he hasn't dealt with all year (though was his main issue coming out of college).

What I've heard from Beede reports is that in San Jose, the Giants had him using his new two-seamer almost exclusively to get a feel for it. After they promoted him to Richmond, they have allowed him to open up his whole repertoire (which is now a kitchen sink of pitches). That could lead to some of the struggles has he's figuring out how and when to use all his pitches.

I like to see some struggles for a prospect in the minors. It teaches them how to deal with failure and struggles. One of my concerns with Belt was that he NEVER struggled in the minors. He pretty much dominated every step of the way, until he got the the majors where he has really struggled to get his feet under him. He is still known as a MAJOR-streaky player. I wonder if this would have been a bit different had he fallen on his face a bit while in the minors.

That said, I only like to see SOME struggling. Not the kind of struggling that Stratton has had, or Crick has had this year, or Brown had post-San Jose. But Oropessa's struggles last year MAY end up being a good thing. It pretty much removed him from most prospect-sheets, but this year, he is both solid AND consistent. I do not know if he has an MLB future, but I feel a bit more comfortable with him now, knowing that he is a kid who knows haw to deal with failure.

Remember when we were all worried about Bumgarner's head? He got married then seemed to lose focus on the game. He even went ballistic on an umpire in one game in Fresno (I think it was AAA, but I dont remember exactly).

I think this episode in his developed helped forge the iron that he has demonstrated in 3 World Series runs. I am not sure any of that could have been possible without those troubles.

Stratton has the luxury of probably not being needed in SF this year, so he'll get a call up in Sep.

2016 rotation: Bum, Cain, Hesto, Peaved, Strat

How's THAT for home grown?

Add in Buster, Sus, Disco, Stamos, Skeeter, Mac that's an impressive farm system

Skeeter = Duffy? Why?

I like Fargas a lot. Slight frame, but he has a lightning quick bat. Power potential from the leadoff spot. Reminds me of A.J. Pollock.

Nicknames need to make sense and be accepted by everyone else. I don't see that we have either here.
Agree.

Otherwise we will start to get names like "007" or "El Diablo" that make no sense and nobody understands where they come from.

The nic-creator also has to be able to let go of it if it doesnt catch. C3PO comes to mind as one that I came up with...

Well, that makes some sense, but I think Duffman has become the de facto nic for Duffy. He's even got the Duffman image on his bats.

Not sure about "disco". I didn't like it in the 70's and 80's, and I like Panik too much to acknowledge it for him.

As to 007, and El Diablo, :noidea:

Disco refers to a band called Panic At The Disco. I agree it's dumb, we can do better. Maybe Joey Bats? I know that's Jose Bautista's nick but we don't post about him.

Duffman is also >>>>>> than Skeeter. tzill can keep using Skeeter in his BoB-like way, the rest of us will use the correct nick.

By the way, I assume BoB is either banned or dead, anyone know which?

I doubt Peavy is still in the rotation in 2016. I hope they use some Lincecum/Hudson/Affeldt money on a legit #2 type.
