Rick Stockstill Turns Down Pay Raise to Help Fund Cost of Attendance at MTSU - Underdog Dynasty

RIck Stockstill is a smart, smart man. Due to receive a $100,000 annual pay raise for the next four years, Stockstill told MTSU to keep the money. Use it to pay for athletes' cost of attendance. This is a brilliant move for a few reasons. Most importantly, it will provide immediate goodwill and exposure on the recruiting trail. Hell, Rick might be sending a kid a link to this article through a DM right now. Stockstill is showing recruits that he cares about their well being, even if there may be some altruistic motivation behind the move. Pay raises are nice, no doubt, but job security is much, much nicer. MTSU already struggles to match the recruiting success of Conference USA East teams. As those schools take up the tab for athletes' cost of attendance it will only increase the separation in talent between MTSU and the Marshalls and FIUs of the division. Anyone thinking an FBS school can expect to provide recruits less financial assistance and still win recruiting battles is kidding themselves. Money talks and Stockstill is using his wallet to make a statement about MTSU's dedication to winning.

3 more MTSU games added to TV schedule

MURFREESBORO – Three additional MTSU football games will be televised this season according to a release on Monday from Conference USA.

The Blue Raiders games at Louisiana Tech on Oct. 24, at Florida Atlantic on Nov. 14 and at home against North Texas on Nov. 21 will be broadcast on American Sports Network (ASN).

The La. Tech game will kick off at 2:30 p.m, while the FAU and UNT contests will kick off at 11 a.m.

The trio of games were part of 29 announced by C-USA on Monday. The release said one additional league game to be broadcast on ASN will be announced at a later date.

The three TV games bring the team’s confirmed total to eight for 2015. MTSU’s first five TV games (vs. Vanderbilt, at Western Kentucky, vs. Florida International, vs. Marshall and at Texas-San Antonio) were announced on June 1.

Four of the eight will be broadcast on the Fox Sports family of networks, three will be televised on ASN and one on CBS Sports Network.

The Blue Raiders will have two more games on television too, bringing the team’s total to 10 — of 12 — for the season. MTSU’s road games at Alabama on Sept. 12 and at Illinois on Sept. 26 will be broadcast on TV according to the Blue Raiders’ athletic department but networks and times for both matchups have yet to be announced.

The Raiders’ first two home games — the team’s season opener against Jackson State on Sept. 5 and against Charlotte on Sept. 19 – are not scheduled to be broadcast on television at this time.

GoMiddle.com - MT lands first commit of 2016 class

A 6-foot-3, 185-pound gunslinger, Banks held nine total offers to this point of the recruiting process, including offers from fellow C-USA schools FAU, Marshall and Southern Miss. Banks was also receiving interest from SEC schools Tennessee and Florida, the latter of which he attended their most recent Junior Day.

As a junior at North Paulding, Banks amassed 3,498 passing yards (3244 in the regular season), 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 59 percent of his passes. In one game alone, Banks threw for 533 yards, six touchdowns and ran for another.

Even more impressive for the first-year starter was that he finished the regular season as the passing leader in the entire state of Georgia, edging out 2015 Middle Tennessee signee John Urzua in the state rankings.

Following his standout year, Banks was invited to, and played in, the Rising Senior Bowl game, where he drew praise for his accurate arm.

A two-sport athlete at North Paulding, Banks is also a standout lacrosse player for the Wolfpack.
