Osich was a huge injury risk a few years ago, but he's carved out a nice role for himself in the bullpen. Then again, Ray Black was a huge risk as well, and it's not looking like he can stay on the field. I guess for a 3rd pick there's more risk involved, but it sounds like this kids has some real geed stuff from the left side. I trust our scouting that they see something they believe they can fix, and hopefully put his injuries behind him.
This is all any of can say. I have done ZERO scouting pre-draft, and know NOTHING about any of these kids. I am only speaking to what I have read so far, and I just wonder if his ceiling is high enough to warrant the risk with a mid-second round pick.

I am also not a HUGE fan of the Shaw pick, but that is 100% based on the fact that he is a 1B only. Everything I have read/heard about his bat makes me excited about the pick. Also, after I actually looked at what we have in the pipeline at 1B, I see the logic. The only actual "prospect" we have in the system is Duvall, and I dont really see him as a prospect.

Giants got Vizcaino!!

They have been linked to him pre-draft, expected somewhere in the 6th round area. Getting him the 7th is a nice pickup.

One sentence in, and my trust for this article is already near-zero...

The draft is only 30 rounds now, and has been since the latest CBA has been in effect...

I should have researched this before, but the draft is 40 rounds.

Giants only took 3 outfielders in the first 30 rounds. Wow is anyone gonna play outfield 6 years down the line. All 3 were CF. Wow

The Giants basically dont draft OFers for SF. The last All-star OFer developed by the Giants was Chili Davis.

The "pride" of the Giants OFers since include names like...

Marvin Benard
Jason Ellison
Armando Rios
Nate Schierholtz
...
um
...

Yeah...

No sure bets, but Mac Williamson, Jarrett Parker, Daniel Carbonell, Hunter Cole, Tyler Horan, Johneshwy Fargas, and Dylan Davis are all pretty good prospects. We'll get to see one of them for the next week or more.

6th round pick Steven Duggar from the Giants. He was a pre-season top 50 guy, but fell far over the course of the season. Top round tools, hasn't shown them.

Same was said about Brandon Crawford while at UCLA. Seemed to work out decently well.

I know nothing about Duggar, so I am not commenting about his prospect-status...

Craw was a top prospect until his last year in college when he had a very bad year. He was expected to be a 1st rounder until he fell on his face, and the Giants were able to draft him in the fourth.

My point is that he HAD shown his tools before his final year at UCLA.

DrB posted a detailed write up of the Giants entire draft. Good info there.

I am getting more and more excited about Bickford. He reminds me a lot of Beede, and I am super-excited about Beede. I also did not realize that Mac Marshal was "the other guy" screwed by the Astros last year in their bonus shananigans.
