2nd...disappointed they left Rollins on the board but they drafted the position...Golson, size projects as a slot defender...good ball skills is the report...hope they dbl dip...if Gregory turns out to be a stud...we had our chance at him.

3rd...Walford was gone...Huermann was though...Coates, have seen him play a few times...he has the ability to make plays in this league...physical, willing blocker, reminds me of a young Julio...just not the topend speed. Clemmings was still on the board...he had a visit...Tre Jackson was on the board as well. not in love with the pick, but I think he will contribute.

I have heard this discussion in a couple of places about the Steelers not going for Collins and instead drafting Golson. I think that Collins' stock takes a hit because he only played one collegiate season of football. He was at Miami (OH.) on a basketball scholarship, and with one year of eligibility left he decided to go out for football after not playing since high school. That fella is pretty raw.

Then you have Senquez Golson, who the steelers took with the 56th pick. Obviously, the first thing everyone is talking about is how small he is.. 5'8". But, after looking all over the place at his draft previews, and reading up on him, I have to admit that he is intriguing. Being small as a corner in the NFL isn't exactly a death sentence. One only needs to look back about 12 years ago when an undersized corner out of UCF by the name of Asante Samuel was taken in the 4th rd. by the Pats. Samuel measures 5'9", yet he was arguably one of the top three corners in football at the end of the last decade.

I'm not saying that Golson is going to be the next Asante Samuel. I'm just saying that being undersized as a corner in the NFL doesn't mean he can't compete. Golson is a ball-hawk. His skill of looking back for the ball, and getting himself in position to intercept it is quite impressive. I think the Steelers did the best they could with where they were picking while addressing a position of serious need.

Huge fan of Golson, not sure about the 2nd round, but everyone needs corners, position scarcity kicks in, and you have to take guys a bit earlier than otherwise expected. Steelers need guys with ball skills. I don't care that he doesn't project to more than a #2/3 corner. I think he is a safe pick, and a guy that can play, and make a difference, immediately as well as a guy who can play in the league for many years.

I like Coats as a player, don't like the position at that spot in the draft. WR is a deep position coming out of college in general, would rather have seen them wait till round 5-6.

Being a Pitt homer, I wouldn't hate seeing them take Clemmings in the 4th. But DB is still a huge need.

Yeah, I'm warming on the Golson pick. Everyone is absolutely wrecking him for being small, but as I pointed out in my previous post.. just cause he's small doesn't mean as much at the position that he plays. It's really the only position on defense where you can get away with being short. And it looks like the kid makes up for it with a high motor, aggressive ball skills and a sure tackler. Those are three things that could/should help him in the Steelers 34 defense.

Also, I don't get all the banter about the Ravens allegedly 'pulling a coup' by trading up with Zona and drafting Maxx Williams just in front of Pittsburgh. I mean, yeah I guess if Williams had been there at 56, the steeler brain trust would've probably pull the trigger, but I'm not going to lose sleep at night because they didn't get him. Miller is on the back 9 of his career, heck.. maybe even teeing off from 17, but he's not done, either. And the word on Williams is he's not a very good blocker... so, Heath Miller he ain't. I think it's just an easy story line for lazy beat jockey's to use for quick clicks on their sites.

Rollins I think you mean...Collins went to ATL.

I like the pick...Gay is getting on up there...today...slot CBs are basically starters in this era. Plenty of taller CBs out there they get today...all coach up candidates but that's not terrible.

Yeah, I meant Rollins. He only has one season of NCAA experience. I'd be hesitant to spend a high draft pick on a kid with only one year of eligibility in college.

I can't be disappointed a bit by this draft. I still think I would have preferred a CB in the first but how can you be upset with Bud Dupree?

Pretty stoked about this draft. Only player I don't care for is Sammie Coates. Seems like the Steelers are developing a pattern of wtf-picks in the 3rd round. I was thinking they were going to double-dip with Steve Nelson. WR was a fairly deep position, but it never hurts to add more talent. I just worry that there was better talent to be drafted in the 3rd. Oh well. They calmed me down by taking Grant in the 4th. Solid pick there.

The Jesse James project should be interesting. Fits the mold of our TE's @ 6'7" 260lbs. That's the same measureables as Matt Spaeth. Hard tBlanchflower fits in now.

Don't know much about Walton or Chickillo. Will have to do some homework on those 2.

Holliman... Watched him play a couple times. Love the pick. Reminds me of Ryan Clark. When they selected him my first thought was, "Wait... Holliman was still on the board??"

Great draft... Lets get that 7th

Gerod Holliman Draft Profile NFL.com

NFL.com not very fond of Holliman's tackling ability.

Overall, I liked the draft, would have liked to see them grab an olinemen somewhere for depth purposes. I do like that they recognized that lack of ability to create turnovers, especially interceptions, and addressed them with a few picks.
