Damn, you beat me to it.... I was going to post one up, but I got busier than a one legged man in an ass kickin contest!!!
this one legged kicker never did work out
Ogletree would have been a great addition. But I think Shazier has the talent to be the same, if not better than Alec. I still like the JJ pick. But that will change in a hurry this season if he doesn't produce like we need/expect him to.Seriously.
My 2 top picks from that draft were Barkavious Mingo, from LSU (CLE...not doing much more than JJ) and Alec Olgeltree (STL...flat out balling).

I can agree with that! But I'll always hope for better! You know me... The optimist!I never saw Shazier play in college, not that remember anyway, so his rookie season is all I have to go on...I think if they use him right he can make a lot of splash plays...JJ...much like Shark, C Allen, and even Mitchell to some degree...I'm going to let this year play out before I make a firm conclusion...but my gut tells me that JJ will be an okay player for us, won't make us forget the great edge LBs from the past...5 to 6 sacks a yr is what I envision and if we get that from JH, and Heyward, say 3 to 4 from Shazier, Tuitt and McLendon...sprinkle in 2 or 3 from Timmons and Moats and you have the type DEF that I think Butler is building.

Honestly I don't feel very strongly about Shark anymore. I think he is a great kid and all (work ethic, mindset, etc), but the more I think about it, the more last year's coaching makes me wonder if Shark is ever going to amount to much more than a ST/subpackage type guy. I just find it hard to imagine that they would choose Will Allen over him for those games LY if they thought Shark was the future. There could be something that we're missing or not told about, but its hard not to be discouraged. And I think if they decide to take a S within the first 3 rounds then Shark is going to have a tough time getting on the field. But who knows... Maybe there is a plan in place that I'm not seeing right now. Maybe its Mitchell they are more concerned with lol. We shall see
One of the many reasons I enjoy conversing with you... You balance out my (sometimes extreme) optimism with wisdom & realism lolIndeed you are Face!
I try to be...but I've been feeling some kinda way about Shark for some time now and it was definitely reinforced when Allen got the nod over a healthy Shark when Troy missed time LY.
Now...before I jump off the deep end...we know that Lebeau prefers vets, and maybe that was the reason, but I still don't feel good about Shark...I'm pretty confident a S will be taken this week. and like you said...1st 3 rounds is not a good sign for Shark either, but we shall see.

I remember thinking about the Lebeau/vet preference. But honestly they were throwing a LOT of rookies into the fire over the last couple seasons, and not just purely out of necessity. They could have stuck with V-Will over Shazier last season. They could have kept Cam Thomas in there over McCullers. And they were increasing Tuitt's reps long before Keisel went down. You could tell that the times were-a-changin'. Or maybe that was Lebeau's writing on the wall so-to-speak. Maybe he knew that is the direction where Butler was going to take the unit so he was easing the transition?
Agreed on all accounts. Not a big fan of how they kept giving Cam Thomas opportunities when he was clearly the weakpoint. But I can understand the decision to bring McCullers & Tuitt along slowly. Its hard to rebuild a kids psyche after it has been dismantled. Not saying that either was susceptible, but its a worry any coach would have. We'll find out just how hard that 'rebuilding' is when we see Cortez back in action. But bringing back Keisel was a great decision. That at least solidified the outside to allow that progression for the younger guys, especially Tuitt. And like you said... Lebeau was probably forced to throw McCullers in due to Cam Thomas' inability to hold the line. Thomas was the equivalent of the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man.I'm just as bad sometimes! lol!
Shazier...I was surprised he was named starter out the gate...hindsight being 20/20 they might have been best served to spoon feed him until about week 4 or 6 maybe.
McCullers...if we could see Cam being blown out of holes, turned, plowed, etc...we know that didn't disappear on film day. Even Lebeau probably said, yeah let's get this kid some snaps...lol
Tuitt...coach Mitch seemed to like this kid pretty early. I think the plan all along was to bring him along slowly which is why they brought Brett back.
