Until someone can give me a better reason then the NFL doesn't want to waste a matchup like that for the 1st game then I'm saying it's the Niners/Hawks Week 1. Money trumps all. That NFC championship game had a higher rating then the Manning/Brady game. NBC would be sure to ask for that to be the opening game knowing that it would be guaranteed huge ratings and huge money.

Well, if you assume that you are going to have a lot of people watching the first game but lower ratings for say, Week 6, you might want to save the big NFCW showdown game for then and use a lesser game to kick off the year. You will get some people watching Week 1 just because it's Week 1, but in Week 6, this is a big game to market.
