Dave Cameron of Fangraphs examines what a potential Mike Trout extension could look like, ultimately concluding that while the end result would be a shocking sum, the Angels would be wise to sign him to a nine-year, $260MM or ten-year, $300MM extension if possible. The longer the team waits, says Cameron, the closer it comes to getting into a free agent bidding war over Trout, which could push his price tag up toward $400MM.

This might sound strange, but I hope the Angels do sign him to a 10 year/300 million dollar contract. There are so many things that could go wrong. Having that contract and Albert's could be a mistake.

Wow, that's freaking nuts... I'm not even sure the Halos can even afford that with all the other money they have tied up. I mean they already have $120M on the books for next season and they tend to cap out around $150M. So, basically their 2014 off season would be sign Trout and let any other FAs walk. It doesn't get much easier in the 2015 off season either- they still have $112M on the books.

I'm with you... I hope they do it. He might end up being the best player in baseball but they won't be able to field a winning team with so much money tied up in so few players.

Seriously doubt that happens but hope it does.

The Angels will soon be like the Dodgers where money is no object. They have a huge TV deal too. You need chemistry along with talent. The Angels still haven't learned that.

Could be but I still can't see them getting as wild with payroll as the Dodgers. That's what they would need to do though, if they wanted to stay competitive with all those contracts. He doesn't become a FA till 2018, seems me you just get him cheap while you can and then let some other sucker team-like the Angels- overpay him... wait. Anyway, I think he is he too young for the Angles to make that sort commitment to. He doesn't fit there past other side of 30 and past their prime demographic that they shoot for.

All kidding aside, I wouldn't do it if I didn't have to for that much. You never know what will happen in 4 years... he might have a career ending injury.

I think you are right about chemistry though but I also do think you can buy championships if you are smart about how you do it. See Yankees.

Hopefully he does sign a one year deal. Would love him back at DH

JD keeps saying they keep checking in on him from time to time and have been in touch with Cruz's agent, but he expects him to sign with another team. Which really means.......

Then he will surely have a fat head. Dude was a real dork when he was here in AA Little Rock. Sure ... give him $300mil ... and he'll end up doing something stupid like hanging out with his LFer buddy in bars.

heh, okay...just read it on LSB. I guess my first instinct was to be a tad concerned, but given his age...he had some time off, I would expect him to be fine.

he gives us a free year!
no?
Crap.

how about two years, 9mil? I know, he's probably scoffing at those offers, but on the outside chance he really wants to return here, it's a guaranteed 18...
Come on Nellie, DH for us, we'll love you more than any team.

yeah, I'm dreaming. I don't want him on the freaking Mariners. If it has to be this division, he belongs here, dammit

No team should have given Hamilton a guaranteed 5, but it's the Puljos 10 years that's the real killer
imo

That Pujols contract was as crazy as they come. But they were being desperate because we were kicking their butts.

Mariners talking about adding another pitcher which is bad news for Cruz and the smart thing for Seattle to do.

He was what 18/19 when at AA. So what did he do exactly to be so dorky?

And what makes you think he'll do something stupid, like hang out in bars with Hamilton? I've heard nor read anything which gives him other that a A+ in the character department.

Don, were you ever 18/19? Could be anything. Don't know about now with Josh or anyone else but $300MM ....well who knows. Probably will be fine.
