Nice thing is that if we trade Despres we probably won't get anything in return because we can't afford to pick up any more contracts. Otherwise we probably would trade Despres to keep Niskanen and Engelland.

It is a sad state seeing Despres get looked over again but I doubt they trade him to keep those two.
I think it is more along the line that neither of those two have any trade value but if waived a team would jump on them so they wouldn't have to give anything up.

So for the Penguins this might be the best value going forward and when their contracts are up Despres moves into the top 6 next year or later in this season when either has trade value?

Good question. Worst is that you would think that injuries to guys like Tang or Martin would give skilled dmen in the system a chance right? Nope.

What a bunch of pussies...hardly play any pre season and LeTang is already out injured and now Neal is also out...day to day with upper body issues...bra must be too tight...freaking injury prone team.

Yeah at this rate Letang will never live up to the contract.

I was disappointed with the contract. He deserves to be paid but not more than $6.8 million IMO. I'm really glad we get to see Olli Maatta tho.

Yeah, honestly expected to see Despres, Bortuzzo, Dumoulin, Samuelsson, & Pouliot before seeing Maatta.

I'm not surprised, Maata can go back after 9 games, and they don't have to play him, this is just an experience thing. Most of the other guys they would have to make a real investment and actually play them, let them make some mistakes, and coach them. Coaching staff seems disinterested in doing so.

I'm sure he'll play 15 minutes per game in maybe 6 out of 9 games.

I would be fine with that. Good experience then back to the Juniors.

The good thing with all of this his playing time is at the expense of Engelland and/or Niskanen (hopefully not Bortuzzo) neither of which have a future after this season on the team.
