Bryce Harper should be on the list. Stat monkeys probably have all kinds of make believe to say I'm wrong. But I was sick of hearing about the guy when he was still a catcher. And that wasn't recently.

He's a 20-year-old batting .261/.361/.498. And as a 19-year-old, he had an OPS over .800. That's pretty impressive if you ask me.

Oh, and BA/OBP/SLG aren't "make believe."

Fair enough. About time you stopped acting like a tard.

Regardless of who's better between Miggy and Trout, there's a pretty big gap between those two and everyone else IMO. They're both incredibly fun players to watch.

yeah i agree.

watching Cabrera right now is a little rough cause he's banged up, but it's not affecting his swing.

it's getting to the point where you expect something great out of the guy every game.

An outfielder hitting .260 something impresses you? The kids been an AllStar.... Fucking twice!!! And he's not overrated?

There's more to hitting than BA, cupcake.

And you have to take age into account. Not many 20-year-olds are in the majors, much less posting an OPS well above .800.

I don't think he should have been an All-Star last year or this year (though that had more to do with the time he missed than performance), but there have been *far* bigger jokes as far as ASG selections go.

Absolutely. Watching him hit is a thing of beauty.

Cupcake? I'm sorry I think your boyfriend is overrated. But he is. He's not a threat to steal. He fights walls, and loses. He's always nursing an injury.(a hurt, as injuries are what puts him on the DL) And has been shoved down baseball fans throats for years(3-4 whatever it's been). It doesn't matter to me if he's 20 or 29. I'm not impressed by .260. Or 6steals. Or the zero RBI he has in the last week. He's driven in 23 runs other than himself (ive subtracted his home runs from the impressive FORTY RBI he amassed)all season. If that's not overrated I don't know what is.

I have to agree with Harper being overrated.

He is a good player, but the way he is hyped you would think he is a MVP candidate.

agree on the ENTIRE list except 1.......Nick Swisher has been the most overrated player every year for the last 10 years....hands down.....loved that the Upton brothers were both on the list....wow those guys can whiff.
Swisher's having a really disappoint year this year, but I otherwise completely disagree. He's actually underrated. He's a very consistent hitter. No one in the history of the world has ever suggested he's great. But he's good and he's consistent. You can count on him to put up the same numbers year-in-year out. There's a lot of value in that. He's an ideal #2 or #6 hitter in a quality lineup.

It's amazing how much hatred Swisher generates. I'll never understand it. He shows up, plays every day, plays hard, and performs at a respectable level. Why doesn't he get more respect?

I can only assume the list you're referring to is the underrated list. He probably should go there, but he's made the all-star team both seasons of his career, so I think he gets an appropriate amount of respect.

Once football season starts, are you gonna post mostly over there? Because I can't wait for that.

Are those All-Star numbers to you, from an outfielder?

He's about 30 PA's short of qualifying for rate stats in 2013, but his .866 would be 4th among NL OFers if he did qualify.

In 2012, he was 10th in OPS, but his overall season was better than a number of guys ahead of him in that (6th in WAR among NL OFers)

So yes, you can make the case that he's on his way to his 2nd all-star caliber season

Contrary to your screen name, you definitely aren't smarter than too many people around here. Helluva stat lister. But when you try to pass Swisher and Harper off as underrated, you lose me.

I would never even attempt to evaluate a player based only on batting average, RBI and stolen bases. That's beyond idiotic.

No, Harper did not deserve to go to the All-Star Game this year. But only because he was injured and missed time. His numbers were good enough, they just didn't come in enough playing time in my mind. But as others have pointed out he was far from the worst selection.

I would expect more than .260, 17 HRs, 40 RBIs, and 6 SB from a guy (specifically and outfielder) who is an all-star and who was talked about as an MVP caliber guy this preseason.

Are his numbers good? Sure. Could he still be considered overrated? Absolutely.

I don't agree that he was the worst either, though I can fully understand his name being thrown into the ring on this thread - especially if we are just considering 2013. I definitely disagree with calling him underrated.

I'm sorry, what about my screenname?

Luckily, I don't give a shit whether or not I "lose you". I never sought to "have you".
