No, its how dare you for being IGNORANT. You are not being objective. If you were objective you wouldn't act as if they kid hasn't been touted since 15. If you were objective you would know how often he is talked about on Sportscenter and how badly he has been hyped up since entering the league.

And it's YOU trying to get ME to do research for YOU. Again, if you want to be ignorant idiot look it up for yourself it is everywhere.

"5 tool player". "Swing like that of Babe Ruth".

Seriously, you clearly love the guy. Right now he is overrated. He was an all star with poor numbers. He has been deemed a 5 tool player while displaying maybe 3 so far.

Cannot believe you are trying to claim objectivity while suggesting that Bryce Harper has not been hyped up.
There's no doubt Harper received tons of press when he was in high school and college. I've never disputed that. And he obviously came up last year with tons of fanfare. I've never disputed that either because it's completely false to state otherwise. But this thread is about this year, is it not? The hype machine for Harper has slowed down significantly this year. They've shifted their focus to Puig and Harvey and other young players. Harper is rather quietly having a nice, but injury-shortened season for an underachieving team. The spotlight really hasn't been on him.

If there are so many articles hyping him in recent months, prove it. I'm not the one making the claim that there are, so the onus isn't on me to present it. You made the claim, it's your job to back it up.

My god.. I agree with Hockey on something... and I can't stand that clown...

Sorry bro.. at this point.. Harper is no better than Alex Gordon of the Royals.. Harper may end up being a Josh Hamilton type player.. or he may end up being Jeff Francuoer... But at this point he is massively overrated and never should have been an all star.
Alex Gordon is a good player, and is also 9 years older than Harper. So for them to be similar players, that's a compliment to Harper.

You're a special kind of asshole, ill give you that. Takes real honest arrogance to lay out some of the bs you've laid out the last few days when it comes to your defense of Bryce. But I will admit, I prefer your hypocritical condescending ramblings to the stat regurgitation I'm used to seeing. Ill take flawed, biased, non sensical opinions over stats any day.
Again, I request that you kindly present something of merit to the argument. You bring absolutely nothing to the table. Way to go with that.

I'm right. So what exactly do you want me to say? Harpers not overrated? Fuck that bro! Ill let him keep being a condescending prick, making dickheadish personal remarks, so long as he wants to keep having misguided excuses for the chosen one not living up to the billing, ill keep reminding him, you and any other poster that Bryce Harper is, in fact, overrated. (Ill also thumb out a run on sentance). Defense of Bryce Harper and Arther at the same time, that's good work.
I haven't made "dickheadish personal remarks". I've only called your posts for what they are: mindless drivel. Maybe I called you a mouthbreather, but I'm sorry, that wasn't meant to be a personal attack. Based on the content of your posts, I can only assume that you fall into such a group.

I love people that use stats to show they are smart.. but have no idea how the actual game is played..
It's Curt Schilling, everyone!

Hi Curt! How's it feel to defraud a state out of millions of dollars?

You weren't aware of that? I find that hard to believe. I had to read/hear/watch this kid since he was in junior high basically. He could do it all! Hit for power, average, great arm, great hands, run with the best of em. (Babe Ruth comparisons for crying out loud) And he was a catcher. Now he's an outfielder, floundering at the plate in a poor lineup(For a team people liked to include with the best teams in baseball coming into the season). While he was hyped more than any young player since probably Griffey, we've got Machado, Myers, Trout, Segura, Puig, etc etc having excellent seasons, but Harper has all the reasons why he's not living up to the pre fight banter. And he's got to start to be an AllStar, twice. Only logical conclusion, he's overrated. (Went 2-3tonight I'm told)
Again, where is all the hype these days? No one is disputing 2011 when he was drafted. Where is the hype nowadays? Who is still hyping him?

And how is he floundering?

dude.. you can get on base all day long.. look at joe mauer... does that make him better than prince fielder because he gets on base more but hits about 40 less rbi?
So now Mauer is supposed to drive in runners who aren't there?

LOL. this guys is cracking me up.. .264 is above average to you? Really.. i guess nitpicking it may be right around average.. but if you think .264 is above average for a out fielder.. you are crazy... as for striking out not being a facet of the game? Plate discipline isn't a major facet? Really?
The average batting line for all MLB leftfielders is .259/.323/.415.

.289 down the stretch isn't what MVPs do. Glad you count the Valueable part of MVP Dark. Hard to be most Valueable when your team didn't make the playoffs WITH you in the lineup. (I'm sorry I lumped you in with Arther)
A leadoff hitter with a .400 OBP and .900 OPS is most definitely what MVP material.

I cherry pick on that one month because they missed the playoffs. And he did fade. Which was expected, his season was waaaay more than anyone could have anticipated. And even with the late season return to earth it was absolutely outstanding. But he didn't win the batting title and didn't make the playoffs. Those two things happen, Cabrera might not be pushing for his second straight MVP. And he certainly wouldn't be pushing for back to back TCs. (Obviously)
So it's Mike Trout's fault that he played in the best division in baseball, and that his pitching staff and other hitters in his lineup faltered? Is he supposed to coach them all up, or something?

Meanwhile, the Tigers had a cakewalk to the playoffs in the worst division in baseball, and Cabrera had a bunch of all-stars around him in the lineup.

I'm not trying to take anything away from Cabrera. I thought I was going to die without ever seeing a Triple Crown, and I love watching him hit. But at the end of the day, the Triple Crown is just an impressive but arbitrary accomplishment, and it shouldn't make or break an MVP vote. If someone wants to put *that* much weight on a team accomplishment to decide an individual award, that's their choice, but I just don't agree with it, especially when the guy who didn't make the playoffs actually played on the better team and faced tougher competition.

I absolutely agree he was brought up too early. He also was the focus of national attention at far too young of an age. And he drew unfair comparisons. At too young of an age, and period. Nobody is Babe Ruth. (And nobody who drew that comparison saw Ruth, making it more unfair) However..... Even if his hype and expectation levels were unfair, after 800+ abs in MLB, he had to be expected to have over 100RBI in his career. He has 39 RBI by driving himself in during his short career. I don't think it's a small thing I'm hung up on. As runs and RBI are significantly more important than any other stat. (Aside from games played)
Stop exaggerating. The only time he's been compared to Babe Ruth is in the way he swings the bat. The kid swings the bat like he's trying to kill a bear with a broomstick. He puts all his weight and all his energy into every swing, just like Ruth did.

Run and RBI are "significantly more important than any other stat". Gotta love that.

You've missed one think is all actually. Bryce Harper is overrated. Not sure how you missed it, but you clearly have.

Arther, you can't go around saying teams that missed the playoffs are better than teams that made the World Series. It's just silly. It's stuff like that which will make people lose interest in getting you to defend overrated outfielders for two days. And you don't want that, do you?

I'msmarter - I think you're downplaying RBIs. We all know it's somewhat reliant on the rest of the team, but when you're the 3 hitter, you should be driving in runs, regardless of who is in front of you.

I would guess (off the top of my head) that Joey Votto, as a 3 hitter, has a low RBI total compared to the rest of the league - partly bc his power number are down, but much to do with the fact that if you can't hit, Dusty Baker will bat you 2nd. Votto and Harper are both only getting RBIs in 13% of their ABs. (FWIW, Votto walks 21% of the time, Harper 15%). I will check to see how those compare to 3 hitters in the league when I am not at work and have some more time.

The problem is too many people look at his RBI and come to the conclusion he isn't being productive as far as getting runs across the plate. But he is 2nd in Runs Scored, and 1st in Runs Created.
