we are firing Erstad after two years?

Did I say that? I don't see in my post where I said "we are firing Erstad".

I said I know it won't happen. If Erstad had an ounce of integrity he'd step down voluntarily. He won't though, because being the head coach of a major conference program fulfills his ego.

The ONLY reasons Erstad has this job is because he was a great Husker player, had a great MLB career and most importantly is a friend of T.O. and willing to work for peanuts. Erstad makes $150,000. Anderson made $900,000.
When Anderson was let go there were numerous rising mid major coaches taking their teams to regionals and super regionals that would have jumped at the chance to coach Nebraska. Considering they themselves were only making less than $150,000 at their small schools, they could have been hired in the $750,000 range easily.

Erstad is in WAY over his head. When handed the job by his buddy Tom, he had ZERO coaching experience at ANY level. No pro, no major conference, no mid major, no D-2, no CC, no high school, no jr high, no pee-wee, no t-ball. NONE.

This isn't the Big 12, SEC, ACC, PAC. It's the B-one-G. The shittiest baseball conference out there aat it's level of funding.

What part of "I don't need tne money, but I want to play coach" don't you get? Nobody above the level of pee-wee would hire a coach with zero experience.

I always thought Erstad was a stepping stone and grooming Bolt to take over one day.

Do yyou care about the Husker baseball program's success, or do you only care about rewarding Erstad for his contributions to the program "as a player", stroking his ego in "wanting to be a hot shot heead coach", and that he'll do it on the cheap because he "don't need the money".

This is fucked, and the "romper room playtime" experiment needs to be over. Let him hang his Nebraska Head Coach certificate and newspaper clippings on his wall at home. He can show them off to his guests, "Look at me, I was a head coach"

For gawd sakes, bring in a real coach.

What?

Erstad, someone with ZERO coaching experience at any level is grooming someone else to be a coach?

:wtf:

LOL OK.

I'm just pissed right now. I don't know how anybody can look at what's going on down there and justify it. Two years ago or now.

T.O. Is gone. Eichorst needs to put on his big boy pants and put an end to this shit. Get Erstad into his office and tell him playtime is over. Let him step down on his terms. "I want to spend more time with my family" is always an honorable way to go.

For the good of the university, baseball needs to be a revenue generating sport.

Wow. It's as if the writer has been reading my posts on the hoop and pimped them up with a positive spin.

They look like complete idiots now that the Huskers dropped the home opener thus eliminating themselves from regular season tittle contention before any excitement could be taken into tomorrow.

They couldn't have covered a bigger pile of shit with flowers. The rpi is woorthless when you lose to those tougher opponents (which they did). It shouldn't have come down to needing a sweep against Michigan at the very end to win the regular season title. Winning the games you should win is how that's done.

So we should heap praise on someone who's never coached whiffle-ball because he's vocal about getting the B-one-G more competitive in baseball? He wants to make a conference relevent that he can't even win?
If he wants to be a B-one-G baseball ambassador great, have at it. Do it by taking an admin job in the athletic department and leave the coaching to someone who is a real coach.

I'm pretty sure they'll give Erstad a title and office in the atnletic department. Especially if he's willing to do it for peanuts.

If anybody doesn't know. Nebraska took a 5-2 lead into the top of the 6th last night, only to give up 5 more runs the remainder of,the game, while scoring zero themselves and losing 5-7. Lowly Michigan had 15 hits. In Lincoln.

This to open what was arguably the most important series of tne regular season. A home series that is the difference between finishing +/- .500. A home series that keeps you in contention for a conference title in a shitty baseball conference. You lose the first fucking game eliminating all the possibility right away?
Are you kidding me?

Is it wrong for me to hope they lose the last two games as well and end up 5th overall?

In response to every one of RA's posts today in this thread:

HOW LONG HAVE I BEEN SAYING ALL OF THAT????!!!!!

The problem is that the B1G is not a major conference in baseball. So realistically it is not a step up for "mid major" coaches. Like the Kent St coach for example. He may as well just stay there and move up than move to Lincoln and get lost in obscurity. That is why we either needed to keep the experience in Anderson or hire an experienced guy on the way into the B1G!!!! I said that all along!!!!

I've been saying it all along too Jed. The onky difference was that you wanted to retain Anderson and I wanted him gone. NU wasn't making regionals w/ Anderson players. They were bottom tier Big 12.
Van Horn is doing a good job in the SEC, and Childress did a good job in the Big 12 and is now doing a good job in the SEC. Where is Anderson coaching now?

There were a handful of real good mid-major coaches available when T.O. went the Erstad, reward a buddy cheap route.

At the very minimum it would have been a big step up in pay for them. Other reasons it's a step up are better facilities, fan base, and exposure.

YES!!!!!!!! It is VERY wrong!!!!

LOL.

I know it's wrong, but damn reading that pimping article writtten for the sole purpose of justifying T.O.'s choice makes me even more pissed. The only thing they really got right is that this whole thing was an "experiment".

They couldn't have inspected enough cow turds looking for a magic mushroom to mask more reality.
He's doing his job by getting the B-one-G schools to pay more attention to baseball? Well fuck me running.

Not making regionals coming out of the Big 12 for a northern school is not the end of the world. They Big 12 was a very tough baseball conference. Van Horn left for his home. Childress left for a head coaching gig. None of that means anything. Where Anderson is coaching now doesn't mean anything either. I know I was in the vast minority with retaining Anderson and not saying that firing him wasn't justified. It was strictly an experience factor for this transition into a shitty baseball conference.

My feelings on T.O. and his hires are well known!!!!

Better facilities, probably. Better pay, more than likely. Better fan base, eh possibly (only 2 home crowds of 4,000+ this year!! 18 of those last year!!) Better exposure, not in the terrible B1G.

Better attendance by putting a better product on the field. Better exposure thru BTN.

I respect your opinions Jed.

Let's hang our hats on winning the B-one-G tournament and getting an auto-bid.

A heaping helping of magic mushrooms is in order.

Ditto

I agree, let's just win the B1G one and hope for the best

Although I will say that I feel like we had a better product on the field this year as opposed to last year. It's just that the casual fan that you need to drive up attendance only looks at the record.

I eagerly await early next weeks article detailing how disappointed the Huskers are by their near miss of winning the conference regular season title, and how "hungry" they are to wiin the conference tournament to get a regional auto-bid.
