I love Lavy and his system but he has to realize that it won't match up well to every team. He needs to not be stubborn and and tweak it a little bit when matched up against certain teams...NJ is one of them.

the problem against teams like NJ (and more importantly NYR) is they're very conservative.. they have very deliberate break outs and play very tight defense.. lavys system thrives on the other team making mistakes, either on their own, or by forcing them in to mistakes.. when you're not skating hard enough you dont force any mistakes, and when you play a team that's only real goal is to play mistake free, you end up losing 8/10 games against them

that's why the flyers slaughtered the pens in the playoffs last year.. they play at a fast pace and have a lot of mistake prone players.. that was the flyers dream match up, i said it going in.. against teams like the rangers, devils, and i'll throw the bruins in too, the flyers are going to struggle

A win vs the Rags would be ideal we cant start off the season 0-4

that's actually a real solid point

I'm not a big fan of dump and chase, however I've always liked chipping the puck softly up the boards and having the forwards weave in on the fore check to retrieve it(it's much clearer in my head what I mean). The problem with dump & chase is that even when they're attempting that you only have 1 guy going after the puck and his support is way out of position. As far as dancing at the blue line well that's always bad, you're lucky to pull that off 25% of the time. I do blame a lot of this on them not being ready to play Lavy's up tempo system, that's been painfully obvious to me. This kind of reminds me of how things looked when Lavy first got here honestly.

I hope Homer doesn't do something stupid and make a big trade just to make one, or trade away our good young players.

Well, hopefully they'll get hot just at the right time and make run to the Finals just like that year.

not to be a debbie downer, and in hopes of being a reverse jinx.. but there's no way the flyers beat the rangers tomorrow. they cant beat the rags when firing on all cylinders, they're not going to beat them when they're struggling

I was just talking about this with my brother the other day. They would've had a hard enough time against the Rags as it is but now that they (NYR) are coming off two losses that makes it just that much harder. The losing streak does have to end some time though.

I dont know if you've watched their first 2 games but they look horrible. Their offense isnt doing anything and they've traded away most of their defensive forwards. They are trying the up tempo fkyer style hockey and it's certainly not working so far We definately have a good shot of winning at home

The Rags right now are looking real bad they have been dominated 2 straight and i expect the same tonight vs the B's plus Kreider got caught Lindros style coming across the middle with his head down last game

i haven't seen their games, but that is kinda what i expected to happen to them.. which is very good.. when they traded for Nash i said it would hurt them.. they were a good team because of guys like anisimov, dubinsky, and fedetenko who played all out defensively.. offensively they were nothing special, but they were so good on defense teams pressed and then they took advantage of mistakes.. and rick nash isn't good enough to carry a team.. see blue jackets, columbus

still think the flyers will struggle against them.. they've barely been able to score on lundqvist since they won that shootout.. and they've barely been able to score this year

Plus, the Rangers are probably still in their heads.

I would agree if this game were here but i think in Philly where we dominated Pitt we really looked good at home.

sadly,he's not the only guy missing out there.

I haven't been overly pleased with Giroux's undisciplined play so far.Sorry, and this is strictly my opinion that I've stated before, but IMO it was too early to give him the "C".

Timmo or Briere with C for now.We all know Gee is the best on the team, still too early to give him some added pressure.

i agree w/ you 4th.. i dont really mind him having the C, and i think he'll be fine.. but it's too risky to name the young star the captain.. it wrecked mike richards, it looks like its wrecking alex ovechkin.. if i'm the coach/gm of a team, i'm naming older veteran guys the captain every time.. there's no point to giving the C to a young guy, they have enough to worry about trying to carry the team

then again, i think who wears the C is the most overrated discussion topic in hockey

I'm not the least bit worried about G having the C. At all.

i'm not real worried about it either.. i just dont get the logic behind it, and wouldn't do it if it were me.. older vets are just better captains IMO
