Oilers and Rangers talking?
The Oilers dispatched a scouting expedition featuring their president of hockey operations Kevin Lowe, general manager Craig MacTavish and special adviser Mark Messier to the Garden on Monday for the Rangers’ 2-1 defeat to the Ducks.
Edmonton, which has opened 3-10-2 under first-year coach Dallas Eakins, is believed to be accepting offers for veteran winger Ales Hemsky while also exploring the market for second-year winger Nail Yakupov, the first overall selection in the 2012 Entry Draft.
Even if interested in Hemsky, the Blueshirts would have to maneuver to get under the cap in order to accommodate the 30-year-old. Hemsky is on the final year of a contract worth a $5 million cap charge and is eligible for unrestricted free agency in July.
Girardi and DZ for Yakupov and Nurse. Great deal for both.
What was that great line from Burkie? If you're going to rob me, at least have the decency to wear a mask.
I think the Oil will wait to see how they do on their current road trip before making any moves. That said, there is some smoke.

We heard a lot of talk from MacTavish about a big trade during his press conference. I guess that itchy trigger finger is still being scratched. I just don't see a lot of assets on the Oilers other teams would give up a lot for. Hemsky is a nice player, but he get injured a lot & makes a lot of money. Yakupov could be a bust or simply need to get out of Edmonton. I 'd be leary of acquiring him. We know they aren't trading Eberle or Hall. I mean if they trade Eberle they're absolute idiots.
Yak will be the one most likely dealt, and he's the franchise young player we have been waiting for. Think Callahan and Richie can keep his head in the game.
Hemsky is on the last year of his contract though and will be a UFA, so teams won't have to give up a lot to get him. I agree that Eberle is one guy that you want to keep, but you never know what will happen up in Edmonton.
Okay maybe I lied, Edmonton Journal is also talking this up as well. Originally I thought it was jst Brooksie stirring the pot but with seeing the 3 of them at MSG last night and the Rangers need for a true franchise young forward. This may have some legs and if i'm the Rangers i'm offering Girardi/Del Zotto with Miller a 1st round pick and Dorsett/Pyatt for Yak and bottom pairing D man.
You can have Yakupov. Anything the Rangers or any other team gives up for him will be to much. Goal scorers go to the dirty areas. Yakupov doesn't seem willing to do it.
