Olsen becomes the fourth player to restructure his deal this offseason, joining center Ryan Kalil, running back Jonathan Stewart and free safety Haruki Nakamura.
The Panthers are expected to release a pair of veteran defensive starters – cornerback Chris Gamble, who has a cap figure of $10.9 million, and defensive tackle Ron Edwards ($3.3 million cap number).
Cutting Gamble and Edwards would free up $10.4 million against the cap.
The Patriots chose not to franchise Wes Welker (or anyone, for that matter) on Monday, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a plan at slot receiver if Welker is not a Patriot next season.
According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com, the Pats have a replacement in mind in Danny Amendola. Florio, who was a guest on the Dan Patrick Show on Tuesday morning, hinted that the Pats plan to sign Amendola next week.
That'd be a stupid move. Replacing Welker is reasonable, but not with Amendola. He's a good player but I wouldn't dare trust him enough to stay healthy. Welker's roll in their offense is a big key to their success. Putting a guy in that roll who is a guarantee to be on the injury list for multiple games is very risky
