The Bills announced Saturday that rookie passer EJ Manuel will miss the remainder of the preseason with a knee injury.
Bills coach Doug Marrone told the team's official website that Manuel experienced swelling in his left knee Saturday morning and was examined by the Bills' medical staff.
"An MRI revealed that he will need to have a minor knee procedure and that has been scheduled," the team said in a statement. "He will miss the remainder of the preseason and then be re-evaluated at that time. Kevin Kolb will be our starting quarterback for this weekend's game at (the Washington Redskins)."
The Philadelphia Eagles' starting quarterback job is Michael Vick's to lose.
Philly.com's Jimmy Kempski tweeted Saturday that the veteran passer took the lion's share of first-team reps in Saturday's practice, with Nick Foles settling in with the second unit.
As SiriusXM NFL Radio's Adam Caplan notes, it's the first time we've seen such a clear distinction in workload. Both quarterbacks regularly have split first-team reps throughout camp, but Vick was outstanding in Thursday's preseason win over the Carolina Panthers. He's clearly on track to start the team's critical Week 3 preseason matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Aug. 24.
