It is about matchups

The question wasnt whether the 2001 LAKERS could beat every team in existence.
it was whether they could beat this Warriors squad.

The biggest weakness of this Warriors team is their vulnerability to SIZE and being POST UP.
So far, no team has been able to use a concentrated front court attack in the low post.

We saw a little when Kawahi, Aldridge, and Gasol were rolling in game 1.
but, even still Aldridge is a mid-range guy not a postup, Gasol is 36, and Kawahi got hurt.

Thompson is not a threat to post anyone up.
Kevin Love is out there shooting 3s and running.

The 2001 Lakers were the ULTIMATE POST UP TEAM with a 29 year old Shaquille (not a 36 year old Gasol) being the post up threat.

The 2001 Lakers were perfectly built to crush this Warriors team.

Think it would come down to who could be successful in dictating the pace

If the Warriors were to dictate their up and down pace, Shaq probably couldnt stay on the court

If the Lakers were able to dictate the half court, slow it down game, Im with you

Those weren't think links I got and #16 means they are the greatest of all time? People are so stupid. So ready to attack. "The 01 Lakers are the greatest team ever". No they arent, I Googled 4 articles and no one even listed them. "You're so full of shit. Look right here, it says there 16th". Dude, isn't that like going against them being the greatest team ever theory?

Either you can't read for shit or you're just being a complete moron. The 2001 are the best PLAYOFF team ever in the way that they have the best record. If you had half a brain you would have known that.

And I simply called you out on the fact that your google searches are bullshit. You claim the first four links you found didn't have the Lakers in it - I called your bluff and made you look like a tool. Doesn't matter if the Lakers were ranked 20th or 1st, you said they weren't in it and you're wrong.

I suggest you stick with football, because basketball clearly isn't your thing.

Bleacher Report. Do you know that's not professional writers. They ranked the 2011 Mavericks over the 88 Lakers show time teams. Brilliant.

This is in response to your "I googled it and couldn't find anything" bullshit.

First page on google had those links, cupcake, along with the other two I posted. I suggest you change the prescription on your reading glasses.

^^^This^^^

It's not so much that Shaq couldn't stay on the court as much as his defensive presence would be extremely limited. When the Warriors are truly playing at their best, they are hitting outside shots. Even at 29, Shaq wasn't running out to the 3 point line to contest shots.

You would essentially have a situation where the teams would be trading 3 points for 2 on most trips down the floor.

For the Lakers to be successful, they would have to force a slower pace and chase the Warriors off of the 3 point line and into the paint where Shaq would be waiting. The Lakers definitely had the perimeter defense to be able to get that done. The question would be, how consistently they were able to do it.

Imo, the Lakers would take the series in 6 or 7 games.

FWIW, here are some advanced stats from BBallReference.

eFG for 2001 Lakers = .453
eFG for 2017 GSW = .485

LAL 2001 top 3 in VORP = Shaq 5.5, Kobe 5.0, and Horry 3.3 (next closest at 1.5, Fox)
GSW 2017 top 3 in VORP = Curry 6.2, Durant 5.2, and Green 4.6 (next closest at 2.5, AI)

So many other factors to consider here, least of all the rule changes.
LAL 2001 attempted 1439 threes.
GSW 2017 attempted 2563 threes.
GSW PnR could force Shaq to guard the perimeter, depending on how they match up.

7 games, coin flip winner.

The Warriors haven't won 70 games with KD either.

To be fair KD missed 20 regular season games & the Warriors really had no desire to win that many games (unlike the previous season). They just wanted to stay healthy & save it for the playoffs. That being said they still won 67 games which is not far off.

The 2001 one Lakers team is the greatest team ever!

Ummm... not even close. I found 4 rankings on google and none of them even listed them in there top 20.

Well I found one that listed them as the 16th greatest ever so that means you're stupid and that the 2001 Lakers are the greatest team ever.

BRILLIANT LOGIC DUDE. JUST BRILLIANT

Just Googled top 20 greatest NBA teams and 2 came up with top 20 and 2 came up with top 10 and the 2001 Lakers weren't on any of the four.

Well I found one that listed them as the 16th greatest ever so that means you're stupid and that the 2001 Lakers are the greatest team ever.

So first you said they weren't on any list, but then suddenly they were...

:L

I finally get it.

You're one of those mentally handicapped people.

Good for you little buddy!

You're upset because in that finals the Lakers beat your precious sixers.

Once again the Lakers are rustling your jimmies.

The 2001 Lakers would have got swept by any 80s Celtics or Laker teams. The 83 Sixers, the Pistons teams from 1990 and the 90's Bulls all would have smashed that squad.

LOL. Any time topics like this get discussed, it almost always winds up with most people having the opinion that the team from the past would beat the team from the present. The 1953-1954 Minneapolis Lakers would easily sweep the 2016-2017 Warriors. The Warriors wouldn't be able to stop George Mikan.

LOL, I get sentimental, too. I tell my kids that the Atari 2600 and Nintendo games I played as a kid are better than what they've got now. And of course, I believe the music from my younger days is better than any music that is out now.

Soooo true. The graphics are better now but Atari was just as much fun! I just closed my eyes and saw Bobby Jones "D"ing up Kobe while Dr. J fills the lane and dunks on Shaq.

It feels like people have forgotten about Bobby Jones. I've only watched his games on ESPN Classic, but he looked like an awesome player. A lot of length, very active,
and very skillful. His advanced stats are very good. Very efficient player. His BPM and VORP are impressive.
