He's guaranteed $12M this year. Next year's part of the contract is nearly meaningless. It's surprising he came back this year so the odds of him playing next season are nearly zero in my opinion.

Glad Beast is back!

Not sure what your getting at.

Well this is a big chunk of salary cap for this year. At least 6 million of our free cap space has been eaten up and we've even started signing FAs. I don't expect us to spend a lot of FA but Russ' contract is going to need a lot of cap space.

Seahawks haven't even started signing FAs? Well mostly they are concerned with signing their own guys, and I'd say they've gone a long ways in doing that . Russ is going to get his money and I doubt Lynchs contract changes the amount at all. I'm sure Russ is pleased to see Lynch back and not worried about the money. Might make a difference is signing someone outside of the their own players, but getting Lynch back trumps that IMO.

Hmmm, I don't know about this. 12 mill per over the next two years for a RB approaching the dreaded 30....he's most likely going to decline this coming season(hope I'm wrong)and next so I think this money could've been better spent...

Don't get me wrong. I don't that it is going to prevent Russ from getting paid but they may change the salary because of this.

How so? Do you think they are telling Russ, well since we had to pay Lynch all this moola we got to offer you less then we wanted to? I don't think so. They will try to get Russ to structure a deal that will help them with signing folks, but that was going to take place any way. Now we'll have to wait and see what Russ deal turns out to be. It will be nice to get that taken care of.:suds:

I think the FO had a pretty good idea what Lynch was going to get and had already factored that in to whatever contract is coming for RW. Maybe it changes what is speculated about RW's contract, but I don't think it changes what the FO has planned.

Don't worry about the short term money issues that lie with Marshawn's resign. It is a be happy day. We extend this run power for another year.
You can be assured that Russell "get's it" and he will forever be compensated for it. However, it may be in unconventional fashion.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since a chunk of it comes as a signing bonus spread out over 3 years doesn't that minimize the 'new' money on this years cap space? I had read 9m in signing bonus, but that hasn't been confirmed. If that's true then 6m of it counts against the cap? :noidea: That would be 1/3 of his bonus plus 3m in base/bonuses to make up his 12m total. Maybe stoker can confirm that.

Anyone else love that he is making 12 million?

Lynch is worth it, we have yet to see him "decline" in ability and matter of fact last year was one of his best. So until we actually see him "decline" lets just ignore that Rule about RB at or close to 30. Lynch is not no "normal" RB never has been never will be. He might just smash it for the next 2 to 3 years at a 1,300+ and 12TD+ pace. We don't know but we do know is if anyone can do it, Lynch is the one i would put my money on.

I just looked at the break down for the cap numbers. Marshawn's cap number for 2015 does not change. It stays at $8.5 million. He will physically get $12 million in cash, but $5 million of it will be spread out over the next two years as bonus cap money. So, this move changes nothing for this season.

Cap numbers from his old contract and his new.

2015 (old) salary $5 million, S bonus $1.5 million, R bonus $2 million Total cap - $8.5 million (dead money $1.5 million)
2015 (new) salary $4.5 million, S bonus $4 million ($1.5 old bonus + $2.5 new bonus) Total cap - $8.5 million (dead money $13.5 million)
2016 salary $9 million, S bonus $2.5 million Total cap - $11.5 million (dead money $5 million)
2017 Salary $7 million, S bonus $2.5 million, R bonus $3 million total cap - $12.5 million (dead money $2.5 million)

Looking at those numbers, I say it's a good bet he's cut after this year. Lynch gets his money, Hawks take a $5mill cap hit (but save $6.5M) and call it the end of a really great run that hopefully culminates with a 3rd straight SB appearance. Will be fun to see how it all plays out.

I don't think it changes much. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets an extension similar to what Sherman got. A big SB, next years salary is fully guaranteed (but still at his rookie contract rate), and a big pay raise in 2016. Throw in some performance bonuses and guarantee a big chunk of his salary against injury and call it a day.
