Anderson is a solid pitcher. He's not a junk baller.
I think you need to look up what junkballer means. It has nothing to do with solid vs. not. RA Dickey throws junk. There have been plenty of junkballers who have carved out nice careers. Anderson rarely tops 90 MPH, his pitches are all over the place, and he throws a lot of back door breaking stuff.

My interpretation of a junk baller is someone who pretty much fits your description, but nibbles constantly. To beat them you just lay off the junk. Anderson puts it on the corners consistently.

Yep. That was one of the only pitches Anderson has left center square tonight and AB made him pay... a lot of borderline strikes and edge of the zone pitches all over the place tonight.

The whole offense is completely lost. None of them look like they have any idea what to look for from one pitch to the next.

Fair enough, but it takes an extra special pitcher to be able to nibble consistently and hit those spots time after time. He's done a good job tonight, but the ump has helped him with a few questionable calls here and there. CJ Wilson used to nibble like crazy and it drove me nuts. And you're correct that the way to beat a nibbler/junkballer is to lay off the borderline stuff. But as I said, this ump seems to reward the borderline stuff.

Well, I'm sure that's it for Anderson. See how we do with their bullpen

Not to be a dick here, but I think we're at the point where we can say Prince wasn't killing the offense.

I think Claudio is effective sometimes because major leaguers have forgotten what it's like to face junior high pitching. They don't know what to do with 65 MPH coming at them from a 140 lb. pitcher with a janky arm motion.

And I hate that shit. All the umps got behind Keuchel last year with that shit. Not sure what the change of heart was about this year for them with him.

He might not have been killing the offense, but he sure as hell wasn't helping. And when he was playing, a lot of the other guys were hitting, so he did kill quite a few rallies.

But no, him not being there right now isn't making a difference.

Actually he was. We were still scoring runs. As of last week we were 4th in the AL in runs scored. The problem was Prince killed anything we had going in front of him. We ended up winning a lot of 1-2 run games that could've gone differently if we didn't have a black hole in the middle of our order. That really taxed the pen.

This ump is awful. That first pitch to Mitch was a strike.
