It's a stupid loophole. Imagine a football game where a team is up by 8 with seconds left to play, but they can commit a penalty that concedes 7 points. No 2 point conversion allowed.

Yeah, the other team can still win if they recover an onside kick and connect on a hail mary or crazy long FG, just like an NBA team down by 3 can still tie or win if they make the first FT and get the rebound on an intentionally missed FT, but the chances are close to zero. You shouldn't be allowed to seal victory by committing a penalty. Plus, most fans would probably rather just watch these guys play and see if someone can hit a clutch 3.
These are some good points

Wait you hate it but aren't glad Kerr hates it too?

I hope Kerr hates it, too, but since this move is allowed, Kerr should use it, as it is a move that clearly helps a team to seal victory.

Well, it's clearly getting a team closer to victory. Otherwise, smart teams wouldn't do it. Penalties should penalize a team, but this one rewards them. And then fans have to watch FT's instead of a player trying a clutch 3.
Everything a team does should be getting them closer to victory. You made a football analogy earlier so im curious, how do you feel about the victory formation?

Victory formation is not a penalty. Victory formation is fine.

Interference, holding, almost all penalties in every sport are used to a teams advantage by players.

I don't think you can use any of those penalties to virtually seal a game though.

Nah.

The intentional foul is far from a sure thing.

Here are the downsides to it:

1) it extends the game longer. After you give the foul, there is still time for another possession. If your opponent has a TO, they will still get another quality opportunity. If you don’t foul, a missed shot essentially ends the game.

2) If they hit both of their FTs and you miss 1 of yours on the other side, it opens up a possibility of losing in regulation.

3) shooting team can intentionally miss the 2nd FT. A good intentional miss creates good odds for an offensive rebound.

4) if you give the foul at the wrong time, you can commit a shooting foul and award game tying FTs.

In the NBA it probably is the right play to foul there, because the players are just so damn good. At lower levels though, I actually think fouling intentionally isn’t the right move. Too many ways to mess it up.

Don't put yourselves in a position where you can be intentionally fouled.
It's like time wasting in soccer.

When you shoot 42% from the field, 25% from beyond the arc, and your DPOY can't stay on the floor for more than 25 minutes, you deserve whatever comes.

Exactly, maybe you miss one less free throw. Every play in a game matters, not just the last minute.

I like him being competitive but the boss is paid to make those decisions

I disagree. If he was so hurt then why did he go through a full practice 3x last week. Here is what happened imo. There's 2 days off between games 1 & 2 so the Jazz thought they could beat Memphis without him while allowing Mitchell another 3 days off....instead they got their ass handed to them and now in a battle

Utah needs this 1. They can't lose 2 at home or the series is basically over.....per @bksballer89.

Remind me why the Jazz held out Mitchell in G1 again?

He looks great. Have a hard time to believe he couldn't play on Sunday. No way he got this much better in the last 72 hours.
