The Houston game looks like the earlier Jets game; a weak opponent to beat up on after a tough loss. If the Pats lose, or have trouble winning easily, it could be the foreshadowing of another losing season. By the way, does anyone know the last time the Pats started out 0-3 at home?

Pats 28 Houston 13

Rhamondre Stevenson gets his first game action since week 1 and plays fantastic. Mac Jones and the receivers/TE's continue to improve in what will be a turning point game for the rest of the season and beyond.

Houston will be the make or break game.

If the OL can play even decently, Mac should be able to throw just about anywhere. The run defense is bad and the Pats backs should be able to regain Bill's confidence.

That's might launch follow up good games and possibly two more wins against the Cowboys and Jets. Those won't be easy either. Cowboys have been better than expected and the Jets pulled off a huge win this past week. Chargers, Panthers and Browns will be brutal.

A win in Houston might go a long way in getting this team motivated to start extending themselves.

A loss in Houston could well put the Patriots in a race for the #1 pick in the draft in April. AND a huge shake up in the staff.

Break Out Game...

Pats 34

Houston 13

Jones three TD passes 350 yards passing no INT.

Run game combine 250 yards.
The "no INT" is a bit of a wildcard since it seems most so far have been created by other positions...

Looks like BB is going to threaten jobs from with the Patriots' roster. Ferentz, Redmond and Sherman were practicing Wednesday and might be activated to the 53 man roster to play in Houston Sunday. If Wynn and Owenue test negative twice within 48 hours, they can be activated off the Covid-19 list. It's been said that Bill was pissed at both of them Sunday and then to be Covid listed just made things worse. There are rumblings that Bill's also just about had it with Trent Brown. There hasn't been a specific diagnosis of the calf injury made public, thus giving people the impression that Brown either is taking a little vacation or he has a serious injury that requires surgery that he won't have or is afraid of having. Either way, a decision has got be made soon.

Ferentz filled in well for Thuney a few times and didn't put added pressure on Wynn so he could step in at LG. Left tackle is always a nerve waiting to be irritated. Sherman has played RT and might have to play on the opposite side. He's a veteran and is much taller than Wynn and might be a little quicker. Just having a bigger guy might give Mac a little bit of break. Mason was on the injury report for the first time this year and it's not believed to be serious and he and Herron should be back on Sunday.

All things being equal, it appears that the best scenario would be having Brown come back and take the LT spot with Ferentz or Karras at LG. Andrews will be at C Mason at RG and Herron or Sherman at RT. Looks like this could be the Patriots' Soda Fountain week,. Shakes and Frappes.

Patriots RG Shaq Mason (abdomen) has yet to resume practicing.

The same is true for RT Trent Brown (calf). That is far from ideal with LT Isaiah Wynn and LG Mike Onwenu both on the COVID-19 list. It's unclear if either Wynn or Onwenu will be cleared in time, and neither Brown nor Mason appears close to a return. Even in a dream spot with the horrid Texans, missing four starting linemen could spell disaster for Mac Jones and the Patriots' running game. Stay tuned.

This is where having Dante on the staff for 20 years was always having an ace up your sleeve. Karras stated Wednesday that the new OL coach and the the assistant have made coming back to NE more than worth it. He said that they work everyone hard, both mentally and physically. He said that he believes that the Patriots' OL back up might just have permanent jobs after Sunday. According to Karen Guerigian, it was not said 'tongue in cheek'. Then he shocked her when he said, "I haven't played left tackle since I was senior in high school."

Maybe, just maybe, this OL shake up will be the punk that lights the Patriots' 2021 fuse.

The Boston Globe is reporting this morning that the Offensive Line of the Patriots will be scary.

LT- Justin Herron
LG - Ted Karras
C - David Andrews
RG - Yasir Durant
RT - Yodny Cajuste

Brown (calf) and Mason (abdomen) are medically out. Wynn and Owenue are Covid - 19 and could play if they test positive on two tests 24 hours apart. Problem is that they have not been to practice or allowed on the Gillette Stadium area grounds for the past week.

Reserves will be coming off the practice squad and they are Jmes Ferentz, Drake Jackson, Alex Redmond and Will Sherman.

Houston has four players out for Sunday. Watson and Taylor the two main QBs are out and Stanford QB and rookie Davis Mills will start. He's been struggling and gave up four INTs against Buffalo.

Needless to say, this could be a really interesting game.

All those guys can play. One game against a bad team. One game before coaches have some film on their weaknesses.
Yodney? Has he even played in preseason?
Aren't these all we have left on O-line? Are they going to play 100% of the snaps?
What if we get an injury?

Punt on 1st down? Put Harry in at tackle?

I'm visuallizing Belichick calling Scarnecchia and asking him, :what do I do?"
By the way, We don't know if Wynn or Onwenu are vaccinated. If not, they are on the list for 10 days even if they test negative.

Patriots placed RT Trent Brown (calf) on injured reserve.

Brown, who has struggled with injuries throughout his career, lasted just seven snaps before suffering the calf injury in Week 1. He will miss at least three more games after landing on injured reserve. The Patriots will be without four starting offensive linemen for their date with the Texans. The Houston matchup isn't awfully concerning but their lack of continuity and talent in the trenches could be an issue. Damien Harris is a viable RB2 option but Mac Jones should only be started in Superflex and 2QB leagues.
