I think Knight is Vandevelde Jr.

Vandevelde - First real NHL season was 2014 at age 27. Went to North Dakota, played for Hak from 2006-2010. Primarily lauded as a defense-first, 4th liner, that can play on the PK.

Knight - First real NHL season TBD, even though he's 28. Went to North Dakota, played for Hak from 2009-2013. Primarily lauded as a defense-first, 4th liner, that can play on the PK.

I've been OK with Knight in the preseason. I think he's played some good games, and I'm even OK with having that defense-first guy on your 4th line. But there was a reason VDV didn't play in the NHL until he was 27 and didn't get another NHL contract. There's probably a reason Knight hasn't played in the NHL until now.

I'm definitely skeptical of it. Fortunately this rendition of the Flyers has Lindblom/Simmonds/Vorobyev as the likely 3rd line. That line is too good to get overtaken in ice time by a VDV/Bellemare-like line. Plus Raffl and Laughton are far superior to Bellemare, Rinaldo, Cousins, and whoever else they tried there.

They both played in the Nhl before they got to us, but it didn't stick obviously. I think Knight has done a lot more offensively to this point than VV. 146 points in college versus 117 and VV played in a few more games. Knight had 77 points combined in his two Ahl seasons with us. VV never had more than 24 in any Ahl season.

I say give him a shot if he earns it. Should be a huge improvement over VV either way. I see Knight also broke Zach Parise's faceoff win percentage record in college at 59.9% and was a top ten finalist for the Hobey Baker. Maybe he has the offense and intangibles to make our squad, it's tough to say.

The new mascot is terrible, obviously. There are a million jokes you could make at it's expense. If you want fans in the seats and buying merchandise, go win a Stanley Cup, don't give us this BS.

Now find a way to get out of the remaining year and $4.7 million cap hit of Jori Lehtera without any detriment to the team and we're all set. No buyout, but if he has any guilt in this whatsoever, his contract can probably be terminated and taken off the books for good.

With the offense we have on this team we could use a defense first guy and if he can kill penalties i would really like him on the 4th line. i get to see my second game tonight as we play the Rags. Ill take a closer look at him if he plays.

Just a list of guys on the roster for tonight, based on previous games/practices i'm guessing we've got..

Giroux-Weal-Konecny
JvR-Patrick-Voracek
Lindblom-Vorobyev-Weise
Laughton-Knight-Raffl

Leier, Goulbourne, Twarynski

Provorov-Ghost
Sanheim-Gudas
Hagg-MacDonald
Folin

Hart
Stolarz

Weise could switch with any of the other 3 forwards, but i'm guessing they use Weise there as a 'closest to Simmonds' type. Plus I don't think the other 3 have any shot at the roster. Begrudgingly I would say Weise has a shot.

If Sanheim isn't actually good to go, Folin slots in with Hagg and Gudas plays with AMac. Is my guess.

Twitter seems to think Hart starts tonight because Stolarz is practicing this morning. Inferring a step further, if Stolarz is practicing I'd say the gameplan is for Hart to go the distance.

With $10M in space already, I don't think Hextall is too concerned with getting rid of the cap hit. They probably have all the space they need for anything they want to do this season and he comes off next season anyway.

I'd imagine Comcast is interested in saving $5M though. (actual salary this season)

Im glad i get to see Knight. I agree that Leier. Goulbourne and Twarinski dont make the club and probably get sent down very soon. I dont mind Weise making the team as long as he is not in a prominent role like he was a few years back when we signed him and thought he was going to be good. I am really happy with the decision to start Hart as i want him to get as much NHL time as possible so if/when our goalies get hurt he can slide in seamlessly.

Couts 31 goals 76 points-regular season
5 games 9 points-playoffs

If he can continue at this pace he may have a top 5 contract in the league for the next 4 years.

To be honest, i'll give myself a C on that guess..

JvR-Patrick-Voracek
Lindblom-Vorobyev-Twarynski
Raffl-Laughton-Knight
Leier-Weal-Weise

Provorov-Ghost
AMac-Gudas
Sanheim-Folin

Hart
Stolarz

I think the battles are pretty much settled. To me, Leier, Weal, and Weise are fighting for the press box spots tonight. Best 2 make the team, the other gets waived. Vorobyev is the 3C. Laughton and Knight with split W/C duties on the 4th line. Seems like the battle on D is Hagg vs. Folin for #6.

I think Hagg should have the upper hand on Folin but injuries happen all the time Folin may go from our #7 to #5 in a hurry. Ill take Weal and Weise over Leier.

Laughton looked very good last night so did Raffl. Everyone else out there looked like they were just going through the motions. I really didn't like harts rebound control in the first two periods. I dont see Sanheim as a top pair defenseman will he ever turn into a top two defender.

Laughton has been really good so far, I hope he rides into the season. Sanheim needs to adjust his game some more but he does show potential

Didn't watch last night, but sounds like it was mostly a clunker outside of Vorobyev continuing to be awesome and Ghost/Provy looking good.

I like Laughton a lot. I think it almost doesn't matter who you put with Laughton and Raffl, that will be a good 4th line.

Sanheim will get there. He's still in early pre-season mode because of the injury. It sounds like he played better as the game went on. I think by the end of the season he'll be the Flyers 3rd best dman without much argument.
