Somebody should tell Steve Rosenbloom of the Chicago Tribune that the Hawks didn't win the series last night. Quite a bit of smack from a guy whose team is still down 3-1.

The Hawks played with urgency from the start. So did the Canucks. But eventually, the Canucks decided they didn’t want to pay the price to make a play, or even be the aggressors the way they had in winning the first three games. It’s that mentality that makes people question Vancouver’s Stanley Cup credibility. Winners don’t turtle like that.

The Hawks continued the assault with two more goals in the second to complete a four-goal torching of previously and presently tortured Roberto Luongo. Thing is, the strafing might’ve started with Luongo’s tortured skate to the bench after the first period.

Moments earlier, Luongo pretzeled backward during Hawks pressure and hurt something --- his back, a leg, an arm, something. He seemed to try to stretch his back as he reached the bench.

Or maybe it was his glove. Campbell and Keith both beat him to that side, apparently believing Luongo suddenly had a worse glove than Juan Pierror.

And then it was Dave Bolland’s chance for a Hallmark moment. Five weeks after suffering a concussion, the “Rat’’ came back to aggravate his friends, the Sedin twins, and add some desperately needed offense. He beat Luongo for the Hawks’ third goal of the period and then set up Michael Frolik’s breakaway to cap the second-period barrage.

And just like that, after two assists earlier, Bolland had a four-point night, a pile of points that launched him near the top of playoff scoring lead.

And that was after just two periods.

Talk about missing a guy. Everybody knew the Hawks needed Bolland’s grit and versatility, whether shorthanded, on the power play and in checking the opponent’s top line, but it was ridiculously evident Tuesday. He was around the net, he was around the puck, he was around the Sedins. Old-time hockey, eh?

To complete a perfect night, Luongo was yanked shortly after the Hawks made it 6-1. Vancouver coach Alain Vigneault, who yammered about the Hawks’ running it up during a game last spring, made the change during a stoppage and a scrum in the Hawks’ end of the ice, denying Hawks fans the chance to rain down more abuse on Luongo.

Yeah, so some Hawks fans decided to rain some abuse down on Mike Gillis instead.

But they’ll get over it after what the Hawks did to Luongo and the Canucks

He can talk all the smack he wants, in less than a week all those degenerates will be relegated to spitting on opposing fans and dumping beer on underage girls back on West Addison.

Where was this effort in the first 3 games of the series?? I know it's just one game, but I still think the Canucks biggest weakness is between the pipes.

the Hawks effort probably appeared because the Canucks didnt show up

first time since early January Luongo's given up more than 4 goals ... not sure what he was supposed to do on alot of those goals ... team played fat and sassy

looked like they were happy to win one on the road and were playing for the home game where theyll get the line matchups they want

CHICAGO — The Canuck players weren't the only members of the Vancouver travelling party to come under fire in Chicago here Tuesday night.

A change to the seating arrangements in the United Center for the playoffs led to the Vancouver management contingent being seated right above some of the more rabid fans in the cheap seats, and not surprisingly once the Hawks got up in the game they became quite bellicose.

And they did so using the most foul language one might imagine.

By the time your agent arrived, fully four rows of people largely dressed in Blackhawk jerseys were turned around and hurling abuse largely directed at Mike Gillis and Laurence Gilman, but everyone else seated in the box as well, including Stan Smyl and Lorne Henning.

“We took it for a couple of periods before somebody got fed up and said, 'Why don't you shut up and go back to your mother's basement?' and of course that really got them going,” said Gilman. “It's pretty tiring hearing that over a long night.”

The booth used to be used by the visiting radio, and former color commentator Tom Larscheid was known to have the odd verbal joust with a rabid fan or two himself, almost all of the incidents coming when the Hawks were having a good night. After a while it got to the point where he had to give away Canuck souvenirs to mollify them so that there wouldn't be too many distractions during the broadcast. Over the years, the Hawks have had some good nights against Vancouver, and that's when these guys start feeling their oats.

Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini said after the game he might have to get a security guard given the location of where his management contingent is sitting, although he wasn't taking it terribly seriously as he was smiling.

The owners booth has also come under verbal fire in past years when a similar situation developed and things were going well for the home team, although there was no ruckus in those cases. But there the problem was the same, language that would embarrass a **** star being hurled about even with women seated in the box. In any of these cases a one-off wouldn't bother too many people but a steady barrage would ruin anyone's evening, and the Chicago travelling party is hardly subject to the same treatment in Vancouver.

Not surprisingly, both parties could easily come to the same conclusion on how to fix the problem, at least for this season. Win Thursday and forget about coming back

this game just made me think of something great. what better adversity to go through than to get your ass handed to you by your hated rivals in your most least liked building to play in. this can help the canucks rally in game 5 and get going into a nice sync where they need to get to. we shall see how it goes. go canucks go

PAtrick Kane on Roberto Luongo in game 4

"You look at all our goals and none of them were his fault. He is still a great goaltender and we have to remember that"

Patrick Sharpe on Roberto Luongo in game 4

"He is still an elite goalie in this league"

WTF is this bizarro world?

I can't miss this one...I booked myself on the latest ferry heading to the island tonight. The late great Ed Whalen would say that this game is going to be a "ring-a-ding dong dandy".

didnt see this posted so here goes

NHL admits Chicago goal was offside

saw that on the news last night. they also followed up to Gillis saying well they scored 5 more goals anyway.....

um maybe that was the swing? they did score 17 seconds later. that is offside that 3-1 lead doesnt exist and maybe the canucks get a foot hold?

doesnt matter though the canucks sucked that night. retribution is at hand. so much bulletin board material that if they dont get up for this game well they dont deserve to win

I guess Kane, Toews, and Seabrook were walking in downtown Vancouver yesterday afternoon and an elderly woman in a car connected to an oxygen tank rolled down her window and gave them the finger.

It's the playoffs, baby.
