I actually wondered about that too and I think I posted it in here. Leading up to the game, the media was asking about his blown 3-1 leads and he was really defensive. Not necessarily a stretch to think he left Embiid in to "make sure" they didn't blow the lead.

Sounds crazy but I can’t come up with another scenario where a game 1 could be more impactful. If the Sixers can’t get Embiid cleared until Game 4 and the series is already 3-0, you may assess it as why take the risk on Embiid’s broken face with a mask. The best opportunity for the Sixers to steal one is tonight. Lowry out. Element of surprise in a new look attack. It’s pretty much tonight or never and that sounds really messed up until you think about it.
