Reckless and it was technically a non-basketball play so it probably should have been a flagrant 1...but definitely didnt seem dirty.

If he was trying to intentionally foul him, you could even make a case that it was a basketball play. Especially in the playoffs.
Yeah for me he has to be attempting to injure somebody like Pascal Siakam coming elbows up with 3 minutes to go in a 30 point blow out with the series already decided.

See, that is the thing though.

We know exactly what Pritchard was doing. He was beat. The only way to stop the play was to grab Butler. He definitely was not trying to hurt him.

However, he grabbed the man’s leg and took him down while Butler was trying to drive to the basket. It wasn’t violent in any way, but like you said, it wasn’t a basketball play and it probably is the play that led to Butler’s injury.

There are so many plays that get labeled as “dirty” where intent is really just a guess. There is no guess guess here. Pritchard’s intent was clear.

When you make an intentional, non-basketball play that puts another player in danger, there is only 1 word I know to describe it.

Dirty.

Then 90% of end of games are flagrant 1's.
No they aren’t. A take foul is a reach. That’s not a non-basketball play. You should maybe watch more NBA basketball instead of just hopping on the bandwagon when your team makes it to the ECF.

Not sure I understand this...were they soft mentally in game 2? Or do they decide to be 'soft' some games and not others?

Then 90% of end of games are flagrant 1's.

Players are taught how to make a take foul at young ages.

You have to make a basketball play, or yes, it is a flagrant 1, or an intentional foul at lower levels.

We are 5 years in and they’re still doing the same things over and over and over again

There’s been no growth

Clearly this wasn’t a Brad Steven’s issue.

He was probably just tired of their bullshit as well

Again, what happened to their mental fortitude from game 1 to game 2 to game 3? Seems like it just comes and goes?

Seems like you're one of those fans who takes this stuff too personally, like Monty. You get all mad at your team when they lose. No team wins every game, especially in the playoffs. These teams are all pretty close and some days your shots fall and some days they don't. The mental fortitude doesn't change game to game.

Being able to stay focused and bring your a game every night is not a given.

It takes effort to do so.

Added this above:

These teams are all pretty close and some days your shots fall and some days they don't. The mental fortitude doesn't change game to game. The Heat are good and they are going to win games. Just because the Nets are a mess doesn't mean the Celtics are going to sweep everyone.

Celtics came all the way back last night remember. They played pretty good overall.

They are purposely fouling in non basketball plays, just to stop the clock.

In this play the foul was on purpose to stop a free two points.

I'd argue this foul was more basketball play than the end of game fouls.

Well, that would be a really silly argument.

Because there is no way to argue that tackling a guy driving past you is a basketball play.

Take fouls have been part of the game for a long time.

Grabbing at a guys leg when your on yhe ground isn't tackling, its a forced foul to stop a free basket.

Also were not sure that play had anything to do with Butler leaving the game as he continued to play an additional 6-1/2 more minutes.

Unnecessary sure, but no more then a lot of other fouls you're saying are legit.

You are really comparing intentionally grabbing a guys leg and bringing him to the ground, to a two hand touch on a player’s jersey? That is a very unsafe forced foul.

1 of these can lead to an injury, the other can’t.

Huge difference.

The thing you are missing here is that once a player is as badly out of position as Pritchard was, sometimes the right thing is to let the play go.

The kind of hustle you are talking about here is exactly the type that leads to much more dangerous plays like Dillon Brooks on GPJ.

End of game take fouls are not the same.
