And that's great, but this does not always happen on a close out. Often it's not.
If the defender jumps straight up, it can't be a foul on the defense (unless the official makes a bad call, or the defender brings arms down on the shooter).
If the defender is in the air traveling from point A to point B, they have made a bad play.
And I can't think of another common scenario where the defender would leave their feet like that except on an attempted shot contest. So maybe we are talking about different things. But if that is the case I have no idea what you are talking about.
