Any Bills fans on here want to weigh in on this? I'm pretty unfamiliar with the guy other than I've heard he is pretty well respected in the business.

I hate the fact that we lost him. He was turning the defense around pretty good and I like his aggressive style. He likes to play a 46 type defense. The Bills were second in sacks and near the top in int's and the defense improved as the season went on.

How he does as a HC we will see because a lot of good coordinators have failed at the top job.

Kinda feels like the Browns botched this whole process with chasing after Gase and Quinn. Not to say that Pettine won't be a good hire, but I get the sense that he was fairly far down the list of candidates.

I think firing your last HC after just one year kinda soured away some better guys.

He's got his work cut out for him being in the same division as the Ravens, Bengals and Steelers.

I'm happy the Browns hired him. He did a good job with the Bills defense, they were much tougher with him, not the same soft Bills defense.

I think he was as good of a hire as they could have made.

Made the Bills defense top 10 this year. Was Rex Ryan's right hand man for years, left the Jets to get out of Rex's shadow so he can get a HC opportunity like this.

Stillers are old and Ravens are mediocre.

Browns are a decent QB away from being a solid team.

Didn't we sweep you? And we just got younger, in case you didn't notice. Jarvis Jones (R) took the place nicely of James Harrison. Oh, he's not up to that level yet but solid enough. Our draft picks of recent years on defense are paying off in men like Timmons. Pouncey is young, is as the rest of our Oline. Our RB (R) also had a great year and the receiving corp adjusted to life without Wallace. One made the probowl. Big Ben had a great year as well. So did Troy.

Browns need a lot of help. You've got a great WR, I'll give you that but the rest of the team needs a lot of help.

cleveland is a coach killer location so pettine was about their 10th choice. it will take a lot to win there.

They are also on the verge of becoming a dumpster fire.

They pretty much are one and have been since they got a team back haha.

Got some good young guys tho, just need a QB. The league is so QB dependent now.

Browns had 5 guys named to the Pro bowl this year. Had Hoyer not gone down, I have no doubt that they would have fared much better in the 2nd half of the season than they did. They had a pretty solid defense, but when your QB choices are Wallace and Weeden it doesn't give your team much of a chance.

I'm crossing my fingers that they can get Bridgewater in the draft.

I don't know that it matters.

I don't wish to anger you with this next statement but you seem to take a QB every year and it never works out for one reason or another. I think the Browns have had 14 starting QB's since coming back to the league.

Building a winning team takes time and it seems that every few years the Browns are getting a new HC/QB/GM/Owner. One of them is always in flux. So in the end the Browns are constantly rebuilding.

The sad thing is, this was a once proud and great franchise.

I'm a realist with them, tho I joke every pre-season that they are super bowl bound. haha.

They have a poor history with QBs, but a lot of that was due to piss poor management before IMO. I do think they have a good management team in place now finally and they have been getting rid of really bad personnel decisions from the prior administration (Richardson and Weeden...both 1st round picks btw. Good draft that year, ha).

They have a decent O-line, and a pretty solid Defense built now. Those are absolute keys. They have a play-making WR and a pretty damned good TE when the QB decides to actually throw him the damned ball. What they lack now are QB, a decent RB, and some help in the LB corps. With the number of draft picks they have accumulated, they have a real shot of getting things in order...as long as they don't do something stupid like trading up for a bad pick. But, I'm an optimist I guess.

Also, please don't get me wrong when I'm saying they can be good with a decent QB. I'm not saying they are going to be the Broncos or something overnight, but I'm convinced they are a piece or 2 from being a .500 team and competitive with most anyone. Thats all I really want out of them right now, the bar is low.
