This is a really strange hire.

Both Briles and Petrino are despicable human beings, but at least with Briles you could make a very, very, very very, weak case for him being a good coach. Louisville was an absolute dumpster fire in Petrino's final couple of years both on and off the field.

Ehhh Petrino really isn’t a horrible coach. he took Arky to the sugar bowl and he really only had one bad year at Louisville.

Not sure he's the same coach he was 10 years ago though. I mean the best he did with Lamar Jackson was 9-4 and then it fell off a cliff. Seems he can't put together a good staff anymore.

Read the stories about his last few years at Louisville. He might have had a few good years at Arkansas and early on in his Louisville tenure but by the end it was a disaster. He had a Heisman Trophy winning QB and couldn't win but 9 games the season he won it and 8 the season after.

Maybe not, mostly because people can figure out his system. But I’m sure he’ll get another shot. Truthfully I’m kinda surprised Missouri didn’t hire him.

Petrino has a 77-35 record in 2 stints at Louisville. He finished in the top 10 twice while there. Take out his last year and he doesn’t have a losing season at Louisville and is 75-27.

His record at Arkansas 34-17 when the SEC west was loaded. He managed a top 5 finish and a top 12 finish in 2 of his four years.

He has 2 losing seasons in the 14 seasons he has been a head coach in college. These weren’t blue blood schools. I don’t give a damn how much of a prick he was. The guy can coach.

Not so much the last three years he was at Louisville. It was pretty much let Lamar do Lamar things and let everything else sort itself out. That's why the Heisman winner never sniffed an ACC title.

In those 3 cherry picking years you selected he still went 19-17. A lot of those losses being year 3 (8). The man can coach as I already illustrated.

He lost to football powers like Houston, Kentucky and Wake Forest with the Heisman winner and future 1st round draft pick at QB. Never sniffed an ACC title.

When Satterfield took over at Louisville he had to teach players who he inherited where the head coach's office was. They did not know. He had to teach the players accountability because Petrino held nobody accountable. He had to go out and recruit because the previous staff didn't.

Petrino was one hell of a coach early in his career. His second tour at Louisville was sometghing that even hard core Louisville fans admit was a mistake. They did not get the previous version of Bobby Petrino, they got someone willing to coast. Someone that had alienated himself from so many people by his horrible attitude that when he went looking for a DC his last year there he had to settle for Brian fucking Van Gorder.

He coached 13 years at 2 P5 schools (non blue bloods) and had winning seasons in 11 years, finished twice in the top 10 and three times in the top 12. Took Arkansas to the sugar and cotton bowl while the SEC west was still loaded.

The man can still coach no matter how much you want to blame him for not doing enough with Lamar Jackson or how much of a dick he was.
