Any bets on whether he sits another week with "an eye to return week 16 vs. the Steelers" ?

Book it

I read his salary is $13M guaranteed next year... the fucker would,t even show up for $14.5M with Pittsburgh....
The entire contract averages just north of $13m per season lol, with only the first 2 years guaranteed. There is an OUT in the contract after 2020 season.

Not a bad play for a team that has a good O-line... Basically gives you L-Bell on a 1-yr deal on the franchise tag LMAO

One year deal would be good, after all he has been out of football for the past 2 years....

Alley oops? Gase says Bell's bowling a bad optic

My favorite part of this story...

"This has been a disappointing season for Bell, who arrived with big expectations after signing a four-year, $52.5 million contract in March. He hasn't rushed for more than 70 yards in a game, and his numbers for the year are the worst of his career -- 589 yards, a 3.2 yards per carry average and three touchdowns."

Buyer's remorse??? You don't say!??? lolz

Wow...not really, I expected them to release him after the 2020 season only because that's when his dead money makes it feasible to do so...the coach was on truth serum when he said he didn't want Bell.

You can say whatever you want thereafter to clean it up, but it's out there.

Whose going to want to trade for his $15.5 mil cap hit next yr?

Like I said to Mangler, the beauty is in the post-2020 out... Yea its a sizable cap hit for a 1 year rental, but you're essentially getting him on a franchise tag type deal. If he had shown more promise this year I'd say his market would be pretty good. But at ~3ypc and hasn't sniffed more than 70-80yds per game... It's looking like the Jets will be cuffed to him for another year unless they package the deal somehow.

FWIW... I think if a team has a good O-line in place he'd be worth the gamble. Just wouldn't give up more than a 4th Rd pick.

Bell followed bad advice to leave the Steeler contract on the table, he followed bad advice with his "business decision" to sit out the season rather than play for the tag. When FA opened there was only one team bidding for him...against themselves. So kudos for him actually landing the contract that he did, but with the cap hit he's carrying right now, he'll be in NJ for one more season and they will cut him...putting a 29 y/o FA back on the market and this time he'll probably play for even less money.

There's always a team out there with the cap space...but I think it's going to be hard to trade him. Like you said, his production was nothing like his Steeler days...was he a product of that PIT OL, and surrounding cast?

A team that will have the cap space and I thought would make a run at Bell in FA is TB. They have Ronald Jones now....no big shakes production wise but he's on a rookie contract. I'm not seeing a host of teams willing to pay for Bell's 2nd yr of his deal and give up a pick to do it.

He'll be on another team next year..been reported Joe Douglas is already looking for a suitor ..he's been barely used at all this year...Gase is an ass....Bengals had or have the worst rush D in the league and he ran Bell 5-6 times 2 weeks ago the whole game...he'll be fresh as a daisy next year....

It's actually not that bad if you look at the touches...Gase is obsessed with throwing the football...

His usage has certainly changed, and his efficiency has decreased.

Usage... Through 12 games with the NYJ, Bell has averaged 20.8 touches per game (~15 rushing attempts per game). By comparison, in 2017 with the Steelers he averaged 28.5 touches per game (~21 rushing attempts per game).

Efficiency... Through 12 games with the NYJ, Bell has averaged 5.3yds per touch (3.2yds per rushing attempt). By comparison, in 2017 with the Steelers he averaged 5.9yds per touch (4yds per rushing attempt).

But given how poorly the Jets O-line has been graded this season (ranked in high 20's), I tend to believe these numbers aren't necessarily an indictment of Bell's skillset.

Bell has some shiftyness (I'm using it anyway spellcheck) but is more of a power RB...I still like his skillset, but I've always felt with a cast PIT had in his peak yrs helped him, but he helped others as well. Now...imo he needs to be on a contending type team, because if they can key on him, his production will go down.

When he's alone with a blunt (lol) thinking back, he has to feel like shit...could've been making the same money basically on a team where everyone liked him, more competitive team even with a QB3 fighting for the playoff spot...and where he is now. He made a lateral money move to play for a bad team.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Steelers want to make a play for Bell this offseason.
