Game Thread: Week 3: Denver Broncos at Green Bay Packers

With how brutal our schedule is this might be as close to a must win game as we can get. We fired a coach who got us to 6-10 last year, if we can’t even reach or get close to that it’s gonna be a bad look for Elway and Fangio going forward.

You’re absolutely right. The league needs to hire these guys full time and then hold them accountable for bad officiating. They also need to maintain crew integrity in the playoffs. If you’ll recall confusion from Bill V’s crew in the 2012 post season stopped the clock for the Ravens a couple times when better communication across a crew that was used to working together could have led to a better performance calling that game.

I don’t believe the league is fixed. During 2015 I began to wonder though if the league sent the refs a memo to not let the Broncos defense make every game boring. With how few penalties, holding especially, were assessed on our opponents that year it’s amazing that defense was as dominant as it was.

I also recognize the officials are part of the game and they will make mistakes too. But they’ve been so bad lately and just getting worse. NFL games are becoming unwatchable. I hope fans continue to walk away and the league’s ratings continue to decline. I follow the Broncos still but I no longer subscribe to Sunday ticket whereas I used to watch as many games as I could every week. The league has seen to it that I find something better to do with my time.

What a terrible set of play calls after the great return. This is why Denver is 0-2

rushing 3 on 3rd and 15 seriously. I hate the OC and DC .

Elway is the reason this team has added 2 conference titles and a Super Bowl. Make sure you remember that every time you trot out the “Elway is the issue” narrative.

Awful as 0-3 is I am willing to see if Fangio can get it together next year. A lot of new stuff this season so how realistic was it to expect it all to just fall into place?

Biggest disappointment has been the defense just not dominating. Sacks and turnovers have disappeared. Pressure on the QB, nonexistent. Offense moves the ball ok but can’t finish drives. I had hope but didn’t really expect much out of this season. I don’t want to see the Broncos burn it all down after year 1 of Fangio. Let’s see if he can build on this one.

13-30 in the last 43 spanning close to 3 full seasons

Not good and blame has to fall at the top. Since there is no ownership Elway is top dog leading this shitstorm

I'll chime in here and try to build on Mingo's optimism ..

We've got a lot to look forward to on this offense

- Dalton Risner, when all is said and done, will be a legendary offensive lineman in Denver .. It isn't often that, three games into a lineman's career, he will have jumped off the screen will not only great play but also the ability to fire up the offense .. He was as responsible for that 4th down TD as Lindsay was .. throughout the game, it seems #66 is right there doing great things ..

- Rolls Royce looks great .. Lindsay looks great .. Sutton has made some big time plays and will continue to .. Fant is three games into an NFL career

Scangarello is three games into his OC /play calling career

Thru 2 games, this offense rates in the Top 5 yards per drive, and they seemed to continue that trend today in GB

Unfortunately, we landed in the Bottom 5 as far as points per drive .. This is a sign of a young, inexperienced team, play calling included .. This will get better ..

The offense was the area of concern when the season began, and I feel that by mid season, barring catastrophic injuries, we'll be hitting our stride ..

We were not dominated in this game .. There were a couple of absolute game-killing mistakes, each time occurring when we were driving to take the lead ..

We are 0-3 and Lions are 2-0-1 what is happening here.

How many games does any team win losing the turnover battle 3-0?

I’m like Spirit, I think there are some good things happening - but those won’t pay dividends this year. It’s definitely a transition year. And although he isn’t currently healthy, I hope we get to see some of Lock at some point this year. Because Flacco ain’t gonna be the QB of the Winners.

I’d love to see any angle that could show there was a hold. Even announcers thought it was a phantom call.

The real issue is Elway thinks you can rebuild and win at the same time.
That’s a fallacy he’s been living out the last 3 years.


Baltimore can do it because they draft better than Denver and will commit to the talent of the QB and design a team around his unique talents

Too late now but Elway set the team back with Lynch , Bolles and his infatuation with Joesph. He chose wrong on all three when Kyle was in the building , dak was in the building and Ramschyck was in the building

I don’t even want to talk about Fant who right now looks like a puss and has brought his lackadaisical attitude into the NFL.

Every weak spot on this team has been influenced by Elway mistakes

For $5MM needs to make better decisions.

Shanahan was fired for his 8-8 teams only once was under .500

We’re looking at a 3rd straight 10 loss season. Company includes Det, oak, jets,

Only Oak has done worst after winning the super bowl and Denver is looking like Oak at the moment

No surprise there. My faith in nfl officiating is at an all time low. I hate complaining about refs but they deserve every ounce of contempt they get for their mistakes.

Now...

I’ll echo @Mingo and @SpiritOf77 in saying even if we don’t see the dividends this year it’s a transitional year. I’m not going to hold the last 2 seasons against this staff. It’s a new year and a new staff. It’s like 1995: Shanahan got 8-8 out of the team before ripping off a 39-9 run over the next 3 years including the team’s first 2 Super Bowl wins.

I’m not saying Fangio will do the same, but there has been a lot of change on this team from last year to this. Did we really expect it to all come together in one season?

I can see this team limping it’s way to another 6-10 season and ripping the league a new one next year.

We’ll see. Like I said earlier: I didn’t expect much from this team this year anyway. Hoped it would be good but certainly didn’t expect it to. Unlike like last year though I think we have some vision for the future.
