But Brown has a history beyond just Michigan. He took over a mess at BC with far less ability to recruit, far less talent on the roster and churned out a top 5 defense. Pruitt took over a bad Tennessee team and they were still pretty bad.

Pruitt has a history beyond Tennessee too. A better statistical history than Brown.

Keep crying about his first year at Tennessee in taking over an absolute clusterfuck. You look like a tool.

Stats at Alabama are hard to read. Everyone who coaches at Alabama comes out with stellar stats, good coach or not. "here, take a roster of 5 star players coached by Nick Saban and don't screw them up".

Hopefully we didn't get tricked into that by hiring Gattis because we got tricked into that before with Nussmeier. It's like NFL teams who keep taking Patriot coaches (Lions shakes fist)

Explain? I suggested Brown is better than multiple people on the list. And am continuing to prove that. No goalposts or topics have shifted. Pruitt is ranked #3 without a top 40 defense because of a single game where they did OK. Brown is ranked outisde of the top 10 and behind a few guys that he's clearly better than because of a single performance against OSU. The list is a bad one.

As I stated earlier, there are multiple people listed who would be given the boot from their team or demoted if Brown wanted to come there.

Explain?

I'll explain. You've been provided a multitude of stats yet you either don't like or don't comprehend them.

Therefore, you move the goalposts where even more stats are put in your face and you move the goalposts again.

That should be explanation enough.

Michigan's defense has gone backwards statistically since Brown took over for Durkin. FACT

Durkin had Brady Hoke recruits.

5 years ago, 4 years ago, 3 years ago, 2 years ago, the excuse for Harbaugh's failures was that he was stuck with Brady Hoke players.

Now what?

In fact, it's you who has spent this conversation shifting the goalposts.

Don brown finished last year (OSU and Florida games included) with the #2 ranked defense in total defense. #3 in 2017 and #1 in 2016. YOU are the one trying to justify that a guy who finished with the 49th ranked defense should be ahead of him. And if I understand the article correctly, the justification for putting that guy ahead of brown is one game where they didn't suck. Where as brown drops out of the top 10 because of 1 game where his defense did suck. The stats are clear here, you're the one arguing against the stats.

Bogus. Durkin had the #4 ranked defense in total defense. Brown has had the #1, #3 and #2 ranked defenses since durkin -- all better and hardly "going backwards".

Brown has had multiple years where his defenses have fallen apart at some point.

Just like Bo Pelini did.

Pruitt's defense had 35+ points scored on them 6 times last year. Alabama scored 58, just shy of what OSU scored on Michigan. But sure, that one OSU game.....

It took until Browns third year until he did what you said. Pruitt was better in year 1 than Brown was in year 1 at BC and both took over awful defenses.

Defense is more than one stat, bub.

Scoring defense from 2nd (that he inherited) back to 13th (2017), back to 16th (2018).
Rushing defense from 15th (that he inherited), back to 18th (2017), back to 23rd (2018).

Michigan 2015 (DJ Durkin)

Total Defense: 4th
Rushing Defense:16th
Passing Defense: 1st
Scoring Defense: 6th

Michigan 2016 (Don Brown)

Total Defense: 1st
Rushing Defense:15th
Passing Defense:2nd
Scoring Defense: 2nd

Michigan 2017 (Don Brown)

Total Defense: 3rd
Rushing Defense:18th
Passing Defense: 4th
Scoring Defense: 13th

Michigan 2018 (Don Brown)

Total Defense: 2nd
Rushing Defense:23rd
Passing Defense: 7th
Scoring Defense: 16th

In 2018 Pruitt was first year head coach and first year DC. Pruitt inherited a clusterfuck defense.

In 2018 Brown was 3rd year DC with a 4th year head coach. Brown inherited a Top 10 defense.

Why can't you comprehend the differences there?

Because Brown #12 boo hoo?

Brown has gone backwards.

Will he right the ship in 2019 or go further backwards?

#12 seems fair.

LMAO!!! The OC that hung 44 on one of the "greatest" Bama D's EVER is #15! GTFO!!!

That was far from one of Alabama's best defenses. Maybe it's best offense, but not a great defense.

Weird to see Bammer so low.

There's 6 or 7 former Saban assistants between both lists, the next one to beat him as a HC would be the first. I think I will be happy to take our chances with what we have.

I was suggesting a number of non on the field performance factors that awarded Nebraska a title they shouldn't have gotten. That's all. Started the season higher ranked, played an extra game and had a generational coach announce retirement.

You mean those non on the field things like playing the #3(lol) ranked Colorado Buffaloes in week 1....the Buffaloes that finished 5-6 but jumped you from #14 to #8 after you beat them...or #15 Iowa who finished unranked at 7-5, or #15 Michigan St who finished 7-5 and unranked or #2 Penn St who finished #17.

Seems like Michigan benefited from a few pre-season rankings that might have awarded them an unearned title...

This list is pretty bad. How the hell can you put this list together and not have Gary Patterson on this list? Done more for modern defenses than pretty much anyone on the list. 3rd and Chavis on here is pretty good also.

I'm just curious what this list could indicate? Don Brown has continuously produced top 5 defenses at both Michigan and Boston College before Michigan. How can someone be a DC who produces top 5 defenses consistently yet isn't one of the top 10 defensive play callers?

Funny thing is they have Todd Grantham and Manny Diaz ranked above him.

I guess you have to be fired several times to get top 10.

I hear ya, and agree, but the "pundits" were singing y'alls praises on D.

I paused to do some research and got distracted by a couple of sports articles, and when I went to post my fairly detailed response to your comment my SportsHoopla connection had timed out. Suffice it to say the Alabama defense was very inconsistent, but was made to look better than it actually was due to the efficiency of the offense.
