Texas Rangers trade control-challenged pitcher Andrew Faulkner to Baltimore Orioles | SportsDay

The move creates a vacancy on the 40-man roster, which would allow the Rangers to add a player via waivers or another method. When Adrian Beltre returns, the club might choose to go with a backup middle infielder and send both Joey Gallo and Drew Robinson back to the minors, but there are no healthy shortstops on the 40-man roster right now other than Elvis Andrus and Jurickson Profar. Both are already in the majors.

Another possibility: Adding a reliever to a bullpen that has been tested early due to a demotion of Keone Kela and struggles by Sam Dyson.

According to two baseball people who watched Faulkner throw this spring, he developed serious command issues. Faulkner appeared in two exhibitions, walking one in his first outing while throwing just seven of 16 pitches for strikes in an inning. In the second, he threw one pitch wildly and was removed from the game with what was later described as light-headedness.

He was sent out shortly thereafter, but did not pitch in minor league exhibitions and remained at extended spring training when camp broke.

Me personally, I bump up Roogie and Lucroy and hit Nap at 6.

There is no reason why the LF platoon cannot be expanded to include other positions and the guys who have been penciled into those positions every night. Profar can play 7 positions and Rua can play 5 positions.

Agreed. In fact, if we don't at least do some of what you're suggesting it defeats the purpose of having multi-position players to start with.
