Maybe because Garcon is actually a good WR and no matter who is under center they are going to need good WRs. Garcon also has some background with Shanahan making the transition for the offense easier.

ya but 16M in 2017? It should be KC's new toy in SF. #2 pick is fair for KC for both sides. Like I said before Sf can get the highest paid QB in the NFl only for he #2 pick. Most teams would jump at that chance. lol

$16 million is insane. Congratulations to Garcon, but really, I can't fault the redskins for not ponying up that amount of money.

Also, KC isn't going to SF for just the #2 pick in the draft. That's not enough compensation, no matter how much dean wants it to happen.

Its fair for both sides under the circumstances. You have to realize that is not normal here. KC has too much leverage.

you nailed it right there ...

everyone is waiting for Stafford to set the market
I honestly think he will have made more money than any other athlete when he retires. (Excluding endorsements)

He jus told turned 29 and is still over 127 Mil already. Craziness.

As normal as it sounds under current circumstances, the #2 pick still isn't enough regardless of how much leverage Cousins or SF thinks they have. The #2 plus your 2nd or 3rd rounder will have to do. That leaves SF with no further obligations (loss of draft picks) after this year which imo they will likely pull the trigger on. We don't know what figures have been offered to Cousins and his agent (they will come out sooner or later) and it seems at this point Cousins really doesn't want to be here thus, forcing a trade. I'm sure Gruden is NOT happy but as he well knows, this is a business and anything can happen.

If the 49ers game PG 16M this year im sure the contract for KC will be fine. KC has us over a barrel. Take the #2 pick and run.

right time, right place ... good for him

would appreciate you posting anything you hear about his deal here ... maybe we could create own thread

I dont think alot of folks I am listening to on twitter have connected the dots & realize the impact his decision is having on Cousins.

I think we are reading the 16 mil wrong. My guess is that includes the signing bonus. I am guessing a 10 mil signing bonus and 6 mil first year salary.

You guys have a good board, I'd be glad to stop in.

Just for the record: I wasn't a huge fan of Staff early on. Played a little reckless and relied on Calvin as a security blanket. But Jim Bob coming in as QB coach started to change that. And more so now as OC. This will be Year 9. I'd be happy to see nine more. As I think he's just coming into his own now.

It'll be interesting to see how the dominoes fall.

I will wait to see how that number plays out. What if its $16M is the fully guaranteed portion of a 3 year deal?

i am a believer in Staff abilities ... his final drive vs the Skins this past season was no coincidence or happenstance.

your OC, Jim Bob?, ... no clue lol ... you lost me ...

However, if you could let us know if you hear whispers about Staff putting pen to paper ...

because I believe that is the stumbling block holding Cousins from agreeing to a long term contract.

Yeah, I think you're right. Which I could see as plausible, but if the 16 is straight salary......wow. All I can say to that is "Pimp on, Pimpin!" to Garcon and his agent.

From rotoworld.com:
NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala reports coach Kyle Shanahan views Brian Hoyer as a "backup-type" quarterback.
If Kinkhabwala's report is true -- we have no reason not to believe it -- it would seem Hoyer's addition won't preclude the 49ers from pursuing Kirk Cousins. Hoyer and Cousins were teammates at Michigan State, and it's possible Hoyer signed with San Francisco just to reunite with Shanahan. For what it's worth, Hoyer was dreadful under Shanahan in 13 starts with the Browns in 2014, registering a 55.3 percent completion rate and throwing 12 touchdowns to 13 picks. Hoyer should be viewed as a one-year stopgap at best. Mar 8 - 3:29 PM
