i wonder who is scott second in comand scout is?
McCloughan is essentially as powerful as Allen wishes him to be. Even though McCloughan technically has final say on personnel matters, he still has to go through Allen to get deals completed, which is one way to limit the GM’s power. Even though McCloughan would be Coach Jay Gruden’s boss in a normal organizational structure, he doesn’t have the authority to fire Gruden or anyone on the coaching staff. Gruden and McCloughan report directly to Allen. They are, in essence, on the same shelf.
McCloughan runs the show — with Allen’s old scouting department. McCloughan flirted with adding a few of his own folks, but nothing came of it. So his challenge was to teach a team he didn’t put together his talent-evaluating tricks, to make them see what he sees, rather than create a staff that he knew he could manage.
As more and more of this becomes public, I would imagine Bruce Allen's press conference would be something like this:
Questioner #1: "After what seemed like the beginning of the turn-a-round here with back to back non-losing seasons, what went wrong?"
Allen: "As team president, part of my job is now and will be going forward to find the cancer that seems to be creeping in and get rid of it!"
Questioner #2: There are a lot of people who firmly believe that the cancer that you speak of is at the top in this organization, are you prepared to step aside if that proves to be the case?"
Allen: "Well, you can't fire Dan, and I'm team president so there's no one left at the top to look at!"
Fans: "Exactly!!"
Only a question Sty would paraphrase that way. Not "back to back winning seasons" Sty?...LOL
Damn it Sty. If only the Lakers wouldn't have signed Magic Johnson as President of Operations maybe the Skins would have had a chance to bring him in to right the ship.
McCloughan learned his craft with one of the best organizations in football. Allen is one of the main problems in the Redskins organization and should be let go but Snyder likes the guy. From this most recent Jerry Brewer article it sounds like when Scott was hired he wanted to bring in some of his own guys to scout ... but that was shot down from Bruce ?
Really??? That's where we are? Let's totally ignore the issue and focus on phrasing! No need to bring in Magic or anyone else for that matter. All we have to do is correct the phrasing in a manner that satisfies and we're Super Bowl bound.
In case you are not aware, it was purposely phrased in that manner because any questioner of Bruce Allen would know that phrasing it in the manner that you suggest, leaves him an opening in which to evade the point.
SN: I created the entire thing, therefore paraphrasing was not involved.
Of course you did Sty. "Fake News". That's how a lot of opinions roll these days. Good luck with that.
