Teams are that desperate to have their player make the AS team?

For bad teams, yes. It provides a lone bright spot to their season. It also lets the team have additional marketing opportunities to draw more revenue with an "all-star" to tout around.

Didn't realize that Wade's 18.8 ppg this year are his lowest since his rookie year. Although he averaged 19.0 last year & was an All Star.

Last year he only made it due to the fan vote. If the same system was in place then he wouldn't have made it. This new system is going to kill those veteran players who would make it on fan vote. Not going to see a lot of greats in their 15th or 16th year making AS teams anymore as we saw previously with Kobe, Dirk, KG, and Timmy.
