Top 5 Spirits Thread

I saw a thread over on the main forum about your favorite bourbons, so I thought of extending it to all spirits. Keep in mind that I'm underage so most of the shit I've done drank is 1. inexpensive and 2. nasty. But here's my top 5, as per taste, and getting shit-faced on!

1. Hennessy. I came across a bottle of this back in HS from my parent's liquor cabinet. Only had the one bottle, but got damn that shit was delicious.

2. Tanqueray Gin. This is the only gin I can recollect ever drinking, but I have drunk it at least 10 times and the shit gets you fucking shit-faced with a great taste

3. Jack Daniels' Whiskey. I went back and forth on 3/4 with this and Jim Beam. I slightly prefer JD, just me

4. Jim Beam Bourbon

5. Gordon's Vodka. Being that I've only tried this and Smirnoff when it comes to Vodka, it was a toss-up, but I slightly prefer Gordon's I guess (they're probably interchangeable to me in a blind taste test)

Also, on a non-alcohol, but drug related note, here are my top 5 drugs that I've tried (not necessarily all to get wasted on):

1. Dextroamphetamine
2. Methylphenidate
3. Alcohol
4. Oxycodone, particularly Percocet is the one I've taken the most
5. Marijuana (barely sneaks in- highly overrated)

Shoutout to Lunesta, Adderall (mixed amphetamine salts), cigs and dip (nicotine), and Klonopin! I love you all, but alas, only 5 spots

I mostly drink Vodka, and mostly drink it mixed at that. But I do like it strong enough that I can taste the edge of the vodka at least. My go to is
1. Belvedere - my normal order.
2. Grey Goose - I actually prefer the taste over Belvedere, but it's like 100% vs 99.99% most of the time I won't even notice the difference, and if I do its a tiny difference anyways. And while I mostly don't care what other people think, ordering Belvedere means you know what you like, while ordering "the Goose" means you have heard at least one top 40 rap song in the past 20 years.

3. Stolichinaya (Stoli) vanilla. - I know this is incredibly girly, but a Dirty Shirley (shirley temple with vodka) made with vanilla Stoli is amazing. Once in a while.

4. Mount Gay Rum - The only rum that I've ever been able to stand. I don't do cola drinks though, so that may be why. A Mount Gay rum punch on a nice warm summer day is hard to beat.

5. I really like Peach Margarita's, followed closely by regular Margaritas. And I HATE cheap tequila! Bad experiences and all that. And honestly I don't really care for even top shelf of the "gold" tequilas. I have to do silver or clear or whatever. If I'm ordering it somewhere I usually say patron or whatever topshelf silver you have. Probably just a mental thing more than anything, but Patron is technically my 5th most asked for spirit.

Been a long time since I've done any of these. But #1 by leaps and bounds

1. Cocaine - obviously. Doesn't matter where you are, who you're with, or what you're doing. It would be better with some blow.
2. Ecstacy - In the right places at the right times, nothing beats it. IMO. You kids these days get much cleaner Molly than the stepped on pills we used to get.
3. Acid - Better as a super rare special event, rather than the fucked up people that did a lot of it. But I have some great stories from the few times I have done it.
4. Ketamine - Yes it's a horse tranquilizer. Yes it's completely as fucked up as it sounds. Yes I had a blast every time.
5. I guess probably shrooms.

Some guys on my dorm room floor my freshman year "cooked" up some DXM in their dorm room. The whole floor stunk for like a week. Luckily the RA had no idea what it was and bought the story that somebody spilled cleaning supplies in the hallway. That's the only time I tried straight DXM without like robo-tripping. Not impressed.

I don't consider alcohol a drug. Probably just because it's been legal for me for so long now. I just can't view it in the same category as the rest of the stuff.

Oxy and other opiates used to be OK with me, nothing super special, just ok. Then I had to go on pain meds for a long period of time and at a ridiculously high dose. I basically floated around all day, but still had to be responsible for and drive my young children around. I got to the point where I was like eating half a hamburger every third day or so. Took like 1 shit a week. Even just sitting around all day compketely inactive because of the pain, I lost like 50-60 pounds in a 1 month period. At that point I told my doctor we needed to find another pain med option. Won't ever touch that stuff again no matter what.

Which brings up my last subject, marijuana. I did it in high school enough to know I didn't like it. And obviously ad you can infer from my top 5, not because of some moral issue or because I was particularly interested in behaving. I just never liked it. And then in college I had a ton of friends who dedicated their lives to smoking bud. And I would turn them down every time they offered it to me. At least when I was sober. So since I didn't like to do it, for some reason that made them want to get me high more instead of less. So they would offer to smoke me down pretty much every time I got drunk. Again usually I would say no to them. But sometimes I would get drunk enough that it sounded like a good idea. Those were usually the nights where if somebody had mentioned juggling chainsaws or playing russian roulette I would have thought those sounded like good ideas too. So invariably I would take a hit or two, the room would start spinning and I would puke. Which is why when my doctor suggested I smoke medical marijuana, and that I was one of the few where it was actually a good option, I told him to fuck off.

Nice list. I haven't done any of the drugs in your top 5. I agree marijuana is vastly overrated. You become so unproductive and fuzzy that it's not any fun. JMO

Like anything else, it kinda depends on the person. I actually get more productive on it, particularly, creatively.


Also, there are so many different strains now that affect you differently. Depending on WHEN they are harvested all of those said strains will affect you differently. An Indica is generally a "couchy stone" anyway, but if harvested late, when the trichomes start to yellow, it is even more "fuzzy" as you termed it.

While a Sativa is more of an energetic head high. Most of yer commercial strains are 60/40 Indica/Sativa.

I personally think weed is the best drug of all time. In fact, I believe it should be the world's most celebrated natural resource. It could single-handily eradicate many of the world's major problems, i.e. deforestation, fossil fuels and Big Pharma.

Like anything else, it kinda depends on the person. I actually get more productive on it, particularly, creatively.

I had never heard of any of that shit lol, and I've smoked a fair amount of weed in my life. Granted, it's all been bought from a dealer, but whatever).

Anyway, and you may not know this, but I have a hard time getting high now off weed, and I'm wondering if it's a cross-tolerance thing or what. Regardless, I'm kind of getting pissed. I haven't smoked bud in over a month, but in early September I was smoking/vaping weed ~every other day for a 10 days. Not "high" once. (I was fucked up a couple times, sure- but that was all booze. The nights with no booze, nothing).

I used to get high all the time in high school. I then didn't smoke for 5 years, and when I came back, it wasn't the same. I thought that maybe it was the weed quality (Delaware's drugs, whether weed, coke, or dope; ~all are transported from Wilmington. Wilmington is known infamously on the I-95 corridor as the place where big-time drug traffickers pass off the weakest drugs. It's like the least "respected" of the NY-Philly-Wilmington-Baltimore-DC line). But then I was smoking weed from my friend from the Hamptons, NY- and still, nothing.

Do you got any clues? BTW, I'm kind of drunk, so sorry if there were misspellings (everything looks good from a spell-check point of view on my laptop).

I also take a lot of different medicines that could affect it. No fucking clue. Buspar would be the most likely culprit, I would guess.

I took opioids (Percocet) for the first time in a while when I was actually in pain after a surgery and legally prescribed them.

As liquor goes, I was mostly a mixer, mostly Rum based drinks (we got it really cheap...Cruzan).

A year or so ago I had drinks after a golf round with a buddy...really good liquor...new experience so I started building a liquor cabinet recently. I bought two scotches, and several tequilas...as sippers, I like both, but the flavor of the agave makes me prefer tequila.

Favorite blanco...Fortaleza, smooth, strong citrus nose and palate...on the rocks, or mixer.


Blanco is basically right out of the distillery, little to no aging. I kinda dissed blancos early on as strictly a mixer. Not my favorite class of tequila, but it's the purest form of the agave.

Favorite reposado (Aged up to 364 days)...Fortaleza, I think this tequila is in the barrel 6 mos...again smooth, picks up some hint of the American white oak spice, but the agave is very much present. Neat or on the rocks...I wouldn't mix this.



Favorite anejo...(aged up to 2 yrs)...right now, Casa Noble. Carlos Santana recently bought an interest in this company. All of the Casa Noble tequilas I've had so far are good. They take this to the maximum aging 1 yr 364 days...smooth, a hint of agave, great sipper. Neat or maybe 1 ice cube for me....never mix.

Admittedly there are a lot of anejos I haven't tried...Fortaleza and Don Pilar are two I will try soon.



Favorite Extra Anejo...(3 to 5 yrs) This is the tequila answer to high end scotch and bourbon. While the aging further smooths out the tequila the barrel also overtakes the agave...so it has more of a whisky overtone, more nutty, fruity, chocolate. I've only had 3 or 4 Extras, and none of them were Don Julio 1942 so this could change soon...it's a tie...Casa Noble Single Barrel and Grand Mayan.



These are >$80 to $110 in my area and both are not easily found. Expensive and very whisky like in appearance and nose, but they retain a flavor very unique to tequila. I would put either of these up against the 18 yr old scotch in terms of smoothness and drink ability...you reserve this for people that like and appreciate fine spirits.

Nope, can't afford. But, I've been enjoying Belvenie 17 year Doublewood. But pricey, but oh so smooth.
