Just to add my two cents to the RB/WR debate between @TREFF and @ehb5 - so far this season, there has been a handful of rock solid RB starters - David Johnson, EE, DeMarco, Shady, Le'Veon and a bunch of guys who have been more hit than miss: Blount, Hyde, Christine Michael...I'm sure I'm omitting some, but you get my drift.

How many WRs have been consistent week in and week out? Off the top of my head, AB, Hilton and AJ Green come to mind but even they have had an off-week or two.

Seems to me that WRs are on the whole much more of a matchup play when you get down to it.

Just my thoughts...
Well I should hope you chime in..it was your comment that started it after all :suds:

Lol, I don't even remember what it was...I do know that I was huge on the WR trend in preseason, tho.

Turns out to be same as it ever was...a solid RB is the bedrock of the foundation of a FF draft.

I hadnt really even considered consistency in the debate and youre right AB had a 7.9 point week while every other week was above 22. But he has 2 points less than DJ and Murray. Consistency really doesnt matter if youre scoring the same # of points.

So without me digging deeper rn you may be right that RBs have been more consistent - I just dont think that matters.

I would also add that Antonio Brown is most definitely not a matchup play. He had a down week, but that dude can put up 30+ on anybody.

Yep, and unless the hobby changes to a 1 RB, 3-4 WR's as a standard starting lineup requirement, it'll never change, the more the league goes to RBBC's, and more and more pass happy, the more it increases the value of the few who get consistent touches, and decreases the value of WR's as more and more of them become relevant

I don't disagree with that at all, but he is the standout, dontcha think?

Oh now now. .I bright up the 6-7 RB's averaging more than the top WR...:suds:

AB is the model of consistency though, but he's head and shoulders above all others in that department

Id argue Julio, AB, Odell, AJ, and probably at LEAST a few others are pretty matchup proof. Having down weeks doesnt really mean you arent matchup proof. And its not like RBs cant face tough matchups too. The best players at both positions can overcome them.

AB is only behind Murray and DJ in points.

I would agree that Julio and OBJ themselves are matchup proof, but their QB's aren't. ..as proven at Denver, a team with a strong pass rush will put some big handcuffs on downfield passing, so yes, they can beat any coverage schemes, but doesn't do much good I'd the QB is already on his back or has checked down

I think your using PPR numbers. ..unless otherwise mentioned, we always assume standard scoring. in standard leagues, Coleman, Hyde, Zeke, Murray and DJ are higher. .plus "on per game average" L. Bell

I mean sure their QBs could suck but even that doesnt mean they themselves actually will. Denver had an all time great defense last year and AB absolutely slaughtered them for 16-189-2 TDs

I am using PPR #s. WRs lose a decent amount of value outside of PPR. Id argue that you (and this board as a whole) still overvalue RBs but youre right that its a different scenario.

That said - Im pretty sure most of the places saying you need WRs not RBs are reffering to ppr leagues. I just assumed that we were all using ppr for the context of this.

Also - my argument has never been that WRs are better because they score more points than RBs, so PPR or no I would argue theyre probably still undervalued on here.

thus why I didn't mention AB, in my comment. he truly is matchup proof becuase he's just as heavily involved in the short passing game as he is the deep stuff, if not more so. so a strong pass rush doesn't nullify his impact

Julio had 9-178- 1 TD against Norman and Carolina in the fantasy playoffs last year. Im sure there are other example too. And sure obviously matchups CAN matter for WRs but Im pretty sure David Johnson would rather go against the Skins D than the Vikings D right now too so Im not sure why that would matter.

shoot, if I had decent options available, I'd probably advise benching DJ, or anyone for that matter, against the Vikes.

and the 2015 panthers were above average pass rush wise, and we're only 11th vs the pass, an elite guy like Julio had damned well better beat that matchup
