The real problem is... we signed and drafted only backups for the D-line over the past two off seasons.
Was it just me or did a lot of career ST players who were signed by the Skins suddenly became starters in DC?

I can't argue with any of that Shark. Drafting Matt I. In the 5th was a head scratcher. Continuing to trade down with solid D lineman and some rb's I liked puzzled me as well. We do have a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, two 4th's and two 5th's next year. It will be interesting to see what Scott can do with that. That will be a nice change when we have grown accustomed to not having a 1st and 3rd or something like that headed into draft weekend. The real problem is... we signed and drafted only backups for the D-line over the past two off seasons. Should we have taken a D-lineman this draft early?? Possibly. But Im not upset with who he did draft in the first three rounds. But there were still solid developmental players available in the 4th and 5th round of this draft. We came away with a guy that most of the world has rated as a 6th - 7th rounder that we took in the 5th. We signed guys and expected them to start on defense in quite a few spots, but aside from Norman... most of the guys we signed over the last two years were actually backups. The few that werent were trying to come back from injury.
So who should we have signed in FA?
If we had the money, I wouldn't have minded Jackson who went to Jax, or one of the guys the Giants picked up. I think Wilkerson could have been had in a trade as well. But all that said I understood him passing and sticking to his plan of building through the draft.
Who am I to argue with Scot? I pounded the table for Nkemdiche on draft day and he was inactive last night and that was with two of the Cardinals Dlineman out with an injury.
well i wont argue with that too much but doesnt the 5th rounder deserve a chance to develop? now granted he will most likely be a rotational BU but we can use those too again we have another draft and lets see what happens with the front 7The draft more often than not should be about guys who are gonig to be long term solutions, not just quick fixes. For those pounding the table that most of the D-lineman taken are not starting... maybe teams have figured out that the best way to make these guys into great players is to NOT rush them into playing day one. But in order to HAVE good d-lineman... you got to actually draft d-lineman.

answer breed is yes they are .
Nope, I think it was more a case of Brutons contract and giving him a shot to start. I do know Bruton said one of the reasons DC was so attractive was the opportunity to start so maybe there was a behind the scenes nod to him cuz Nacho outplayed him in preseason according to manyNacho was hurt to start the season wasn't he? Cuz Bruton should not of been starting.

I'm sure it happens all the time. I've honestly got no problem with it as long as it's an extremely short leash and stops ASAP if it's hurting the team.But.. that would suggest that guys brought in by the current GM are being given preferential treatment over guys brought in by the previous regime. That wouldnt happen would it???![]()

Malik Jackson- 6 years, 86 million, with 42 million guaranteed...4 games, 8 tackles, and 1 sack
Damon Harrison- 5 years, 46 million, with 24 million guaranteed...22 tackles and 0 sacks
Muhammed Wilkerson- TAGGED and would have cost over 100 million...16 tackles and 1.5 sacks...also would have cost us at least a first rounder
compare to Chris Baker who has 15 tackles and a sack
I mean RJF is only a half sack behind Jackson.
If we had gone after these guys, we would have been throwing money away because none are worth it, except Wilkerson but we would also have to give up at least a first rounder. If you want average to above average talent in FA, you have to overpay. I like what we did in FA and the draft because it screams long term and BPA. We signed an ALL PRO for big bucks but that is an ALL PRO, so among the best in the league.
To be fair, Harrison is a NG/DT and I'd hazard a guess his job is to occupy multiple OL moreso than making tackles and getting sacks. Other than the Skins game, I haven't watched the Giants so I don't know the full circumstances, but Giants are only giving up 84 rushing yards a game.
IMO interior DL are the key to a stout run defense.
The shitty teams sure do. Don't think we are there anymore but I've been wrong many times before. But we all know in most cases a manager that brings in their own people dont hold a short leash, and will stick with their own guys as long as possible even if its not actually helping the team.
