I think that list is a way too forgiving. Just how much of a contribution have many of these "hits" really made? Beating out Perry Riley, while still being well below average, is not much of a "hit" in my opion. Norman fell in his lap, the players they targeted and signed to nice deals with the plan for them to play key roles just haven't worked out.
I agree. The question is were these bad signings by SM or is this typical of FA pick ups. Most don't work out long term, if at all. Probably the latter as most FAs weren't signed (or let go) by their previous teams for a reason.

What is interesting about this is every one of SM's FA signings is on defense, with the exception of Nsekhe, Davis, and Jackson. Think about that for a second.

On the flip side quite a few of his draft picks are on the offensive side of the ball. I truly believe that his long term plan primarily relies on the draft. I also believe that the philosophy is more geared towards the future. That is why I advocate that they retain SM for at least another few years. You can't have this kneejerk reaction where you want to clean house strictly based on one season (if this season even goes that badly).

Totally agree. I am in no way suggesting they replace SM anytime soon, his draft record is just too good and we all know it takes years to evaluate a draft. But that shouldn't mean he is beyond criticism for his work to date.

Now the head coach? That may be a different story should things go south this season, which I fully expect to happen.

Agree & I was not directing this towards you. Also - again - if they replace SM then I am terrified as to who Snyder may choose as a replacement.

Somewhat agree about Gruden. However - I would caution about giving up on the season so soon. I am not stating that they are going to the SB - just that they may do halfway decent during the remainder of the season especially since some of their opponents don't appear to be the same as at the beginning of the season (e.g. Panthers). Not saying that they will do great just that I really don't know.

With a defense I doubt with this talent anything can be done at this point. As discussed it's unfair to ask Kirk to hang up 34 pts every week and that appears to be the requirement. But boy I wasn't aware of just how many tackles were on #30. There is a reason he landed on IR with a concussion.

If they keep forcing some turnovers & have at least the threat of the run they won't be too bad. They won't reach the SB & probably even the playoffs. However - they certainly have the possibility of hanging tough w/ most of their opponents. I would not lock in 6-10 just yet.

Not sure they can rely on bad calls and "Bad Eli" for the rest of the season.

Probably more games are lost than won in today's NFL so I would not be so sure. Again - the schedule looks a bit different than it looked coming into the season. For starters the Panthers & Cards don't look so unbeatable anymore. NFC-E games are always up for grabs regardless of record (& really not sure how good those teams really are anyhow). Time will tell.

Ken Beatrice said that for 30 years .... for whatever that is worth. Hell ask Seahawk fans two SB's ago.

RIP. Used to love listening to that guy, and he would actually call you back if you were on hold at the end of the show. Nowadays sports talk guys will either only read tweets or cut people off after about 20 seconds.

I was so into Ken I used to use a cheap portable AM radio with clumsy ear phones and listen to him while riding my motorcycle. That was when he had the 7-10 slot. I called him in his office once, he really did take the calls. What a trend setter.

Unless they completely blow up this season and finish 6-10 or worse, I think Gruden will be ok. However, my bet is SM demands some coaching changes below Gruden. The obvious target would be Barry.

A coach who could figure out time management would be nice. But apparently there are very few of them in the world. It is simply amazing to me how much time the coaches spend on every little detail of the playbook, then they lose games due to poor clock management at the most critical times.

I really like how SMH is building the team. The only FA he really pulled out the checkbook for was Norman, an elite player.

In Scott we trust

what does that phrase say about our hopes & expectations ?

Redskins fans expect him to be God ... we need to change our expectations.

NEWS FLASH

Scot McCloughan is not God.

He is a talent evaluator. As a fan base we're just so jubilant that we've finally moved past the days of Snyder & Cerrato .... to actually have a true talent evaluator steering the ship .... that we want to anoint him the second coming of Christ.

But he's not God, his shit stinks, he is fallible .... he is going to have misses. Part of the game of being a GM is trying to find the diamond in the rough, trying to find that bargain ... because thats how the game is played.

I'll give SM credit for not hanging onto his mistakes. He has no qualms about releasing FAs that he signed that hasn't worked out.

Problem is, every three years we start a new five year rebuild plan. I know I risk getting blasted for this... but just as Bruce Allen should stick to contract work and leave the talent evaluation to people with that ability. Maybe SMGM should stick to the draft and find a guy who has a knack for evaluating free agents. Because it may sound harsh, but boy does he suck ass at finding starting caliber Free agents. Rookies and role players.. he knocks that shit out da' park. But most of his Free Agents tagged to be starters..... well you know.

I dunno Shark, creating a new job like that one just might be too tempting for Dan Snyder not to fill himself.
