SO the looming question becomes, how do we keep 4 RBs in light of the fact that Jones and Thompson are nursing injuries right now??

Mack making it tuff

Having guys you have to stress over cutting is a good problem to have.
Indeed. Been a long time waiting for the team to be in this situation.

I want Everett to make it.

Master Tes...

Safeties Duke Ihenacho and Deshazor Everett both had good outings and teamed up to force the Redskins’ only turnover in the second quarter. Everett broke up a pass over the middle intended for tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins. The ball hung in the air long enough for Ihenacho to make a diving interception. Washington’s offense was able to convert a field goal with the short field to extend the lead to 13-0.

Along with the interception, Ihenacho finished with two tackles and a forced fumble. Everett, who was on the roster last year but could be squeezed out unless the team keeps five safeties, had a team-high eight tackles.

Everett’s breakup was one of seven passes defended by Washington. Defensive end Anthony Lanier nearly dropped a sure interception on a third-and-long play.

Lanier is fighting for one of the final roster spots on the defensive line along with Cullen Jenkins, a 13-year veteran who signed with the team this week. In his Redskins debut, Jenkins recorded the team’s only sack and finished with three tackles.

“Cullen showed up,” Gruden said. “I saw him really getting in the backfield in some of the runs and then obviously got a sack.”

Thanks for this. We are at tue beach in Delaware and coul not get the game. I like reading the game thread having not seen the game, you really get a feel for what is happening. Glad to see Duke play well and remain healthy. Guy deserves a break amd I see him as the starter.

Wonder if Paulson is going to make the 53. Can't overlook blocking abilities. Tho his drops (3 last night) don't help the cause of a bubble player.

Everyone talked about how good the RB's looked, which makes sense because we needed someone to step up there, but what about the center who did a great job in helping them gain those yards? Has anyone talked about Austin Reiter? Scot picked him in the 7th round last year. He needed a year on the taxi squad to get bigger and smarter - which he did. There's no doubt he has the size and strength for the position. And he's performed when given the chance - even if it was against Minny scrubs. With obvious questions about Lich and Long (not their **** names), I'd like to see Reiter gradually moved into the roll of starting center and see how he holds up. Cooley's said that Lich is probably better at guard - despite his lack of size. Lich can be a jack of all trades backup, and Long can focus at guard. Yes?

There's some real speculation that Reiter makes the 53 from Ben Standig

Excerpt

Offensive line (9) -- Trent Williams, Spencer Long, Kory Lichtensteiger, Brandon Scherff, Morgan Moses, Ty Nsekhe, Shawn Lauvao, Arie Kouandjio, Austin Reiter.

Changes ( In - Reiter; Out - Takoby Cofield)

* The intrigue here centers more on the center and left guard starting spots than any roster battle. Lauvao has made noticeable strides all summer and now could start Week 1 simply based on Long possibly missing the opener with a sprained ankle. No Long would also keep Lichtensteiger in the lineup and probably means another center must stay at least for a week. One source told Breaking Burgundy they were told pregame the last slot was Reiter's "to lose." He held his own and then some against the Buccaneers. Yet Cofield also continues to impress and I'm not sure the Redskins could slip him onto the PS for a second straight year. Part of me wonders if Lichtensteiger becomes the odd man out if Long can go Week 1. That way Reiter, Cofield and Kouandjio, who is no lock, can all stay.

RR's shown he can mob on the 2nd and 3rd stringers for the last 2 preseason's. Is he ready to do it for real? That was nice footwork on his TD catch and another nice throw by Nate.

I have been pointing out for years that Paulson drops passes and his blocking is nothing special. When you are a slow TE who is supposed to be a blocking TE with sure hands you kind of need to actually be a good blocking TE with sure hands. Cut this clown already. He and Ribeye can car pool out of town together.

Agreed - though that's kinda harsh. But Paulson made the decision very easy by dropping I think 3 passes in the last preseason game. It's exciting to have Vernon Davis on the Skins... as the blocking TE. Gotta keep in mind that Derrick Carrier is on the PUP list - very clever of Carrier to get injured - but not too injured. By the time he's eligible to come off the list, one of our TE's is likely to be injured - and he sneaks onto the active roster.

Yeah Davis made Paulsen expendable. Still bitter about the Carrier trade. Hated it then and I'll hate it even more next draft. Carrier is just a guy and they didn't need to spend a 5th on a player like this.

Sincerely,
