Darvish has pitched well but offense let him down 1 game and BP another. He is still getting himself back into the swing of things.

Darvish has spent about as much time on the DL as he has pitching.

I mean, seriously, if you take his 8 DL stints, and then figure in how many games we had to "ease him back in with a pitch count" and I swear it's gotta be close to 50% or even better doesn't it?

I don't mind it in the playoffs. And that lineup will look really nice.

No doubt. My concern is getting there w/o burning through the pen too much. Need the starters to get through 6 and 7 innings more often.

Probably. Thing with him is he came back at the end of May and had 3 starts and then went back on the DL. Since coming back he has pitched 16.2 innings giving up 6 earned runs with 26 K's and 5 walks. Not too shabby. We will see how long before he is allowed to hit 100 pitches or more to make it thru 7.

I agree especially thru 6. If we can leave it to the pen starting with the 7th on a consistent basis our pen is deep enough to pitch 3 different guys each night so the other 3 are always getting the night off. But you are right about making it thru 6.

Bottom line: this team is poised to make a championship run in 2016. Good lineup. Not 2011 good but good enough. Fantastic bullpen. Really loaded in the pen I think. Good bench options, especially if we can find a spot for Stubbs and his PR ability.

Of course the obvious hole is that #3 SP. If pre-injury Colby Lewis comes back we are in great shape. If not this could be our achilles heel. Let's hope Colby comes back strong. I know JD is counting on that very thing.

Need another starting pitcher to step up. Hamels has been great. Need Darvish to get back to being himself and need either Martin or someone else to really step up. I'm not counting on Holland or Colby the rest of the way.

I think you can count on one of the two, who it ends up being remains to be seen

Stubbs probably never makes it back to the 40 man, probably more likely Deshields

If you're rolling into the playoffs and Colby Lewis is your #3 starter, you're in bad shape. I love the guy and all he's done for the ballclub, but he's a #4-5 at best guy anymore.

You MIGHT be able to get away with it because they have 2 #1s in Hamels and Darvish (knock on wood for a healthy Yu the rest of the way).

Haha, maybe if the Mavs actually had any young talent to trade...

On paper, it looks like the rangers really got a great deal signing Beltran and Lucroy w/o giving up Mazara, Profar, OR Gallo.

Would've rather traded Gallo than Brinson

Have you actually seen him pitch this year? He was nails before his injury, he was pitching every bit as good as Hamels was

Edit: I was about to pile on with some colorful language, but decided against it

Colby doesn't have #3 stuff. I know. But the man can be a beast in the postseason. Holland has way better stuff than Colby. But not nearly the smarts. Or the heart.

And JTA you are right. I forgot about DeShields. I just love having that one guy on the bench in a playoff series who has blazing speed.

If Lewis is pitching like he was before the injury (no guarantee, I know) then he's every bit a #3, I go into a playoff series with no problems with Hamels, Darvish & Lewis (if both are healthy)

The #4 spot is a crapshoot between Perez, Griffin & Holland at this point, with Perez showing some life lately if he can just avoid that meltdown inning

With you on that one. Colby was looking better than I have ever seen him.

And I still think if all else fails an Ervin Santana or Edison Volquez type pitcher could be acquired through trade by Aug 31. Just need them to clear waivers. Which I think would be possible.

4 man bench of DDJ, Profar, Rua and Chirinos, every position is covered come September, I'd send Profar down for the time being

DDJ as a pinch runner and Rua a pinch hitter, and in all fairness he should be getting platooned with Mazara

It will be tougher this year to get a player through on waivers all the way to us. Also, we might not find out about Colby soon enough for that.

Yeah, most all of his starts. He was having a great season, but he is still a #4 or #5 quality starter.

He's a regular season bulldog who will eat up 6 innings most outings. Stuff-wise, he doesn't match up with what a traditional #3 in a playoff rotation would give you.

I'm looking at results, sorry he's not traditional, but he got results, I gladly match him up against most teams #3
