They say Lucroys biggest asset is how he calls games. The pitchers are going to love him. The Rangers upgraded big in that area, I've heard that in regard to calling games that chirinos " needs work". It is understandable tho, because chirinos is not a natural catcher. He switched positions. I hope we keep Wilson, but we probably keep Cheerios.

Be interesting to see how much this move improves our pitching.

Same.

Really, the Rangers have a few players (after this season) that they could use to re-stock the farm.

Elvis (profar slides in as replacement)
Odor (profar slides in as replacement)
Darvish (FA after next season)
I don't think they can trade Darvish without trading for someone else to replace him with and that would just about negate what you get for Darvish.

So tell me about Jeffress and what he brings to Texas. Seems to me with Barnette, Kela, Bush, Diekman, and Dyson our bullpen was already looking to be in good shape.

I believe he now has the most saves on the team.

I know JD has coveted Jonathan Lucroy for quite some time now. I think he really helps the Rangers.

BUT...the Brewers had completed a trade with the Indians for much less than they are getting from Texas. Thinking maybe we overpaid for Lucroy. Hope I'm wrong. But if Desmond doesn't re-sign with Texas, then this deal looks very suspect.

Do you always have to whine about everything? The Rangers made some great moves. Didn't get fleeced ( as far as I can tell). I don't think they would let a guy like Brinson go if they didn't think Desmond wanted to resign here.

So essentially:

1/2 a season and a postseason of Beltran
1 and 1/2 seasons and maybe 2 postseasons of Lucroy
Multiple seasons of Jeffress

for

Tate
Brinson
Ortiz

It will be a long time before we can accurately judge this deadline. I will say this, though- on paper it looks like JD did quite a nice job. Plus this was one of the most fun trade deadlines in quite some time.

So let's recap:

Two significant offensive upgrades. a #5 starting pitcher. Two bullpen pieces. Mazara, Profar, and Gallo still with team.

I will fucking take our GM over ANY other counterpart in MLB.

OK...OK.....you nailed it.....Now get your ass back to work. ha ha

I'd have preferred to see them work in a Cordell and Gallo package instead, but maybe teams are just that down on Gallo's upside

Tbh I can understand.

Let's just roll over and get negative. LuCroy was the right trade.
Not going negative DT. From a philosophical standpoint, I just don't like trading a top pitching prospect for a position player. That's all. Pitching is so paramount as we all know and since the Rangers haven't developed a great deal of SP over the years I was really looking forward to Ortiz.

I am anxious to see what Lucroy can do with Perez. Of all of the pitchers this could help Martin the most.

You know how much I hate trading prospects, especially pitching, in the wrong deal, and how much I liked Brinson, but I give this 2 thumbs up, especially if you throw in the Alvarez and Harrell trade

Yes... The important thing here is JD didn't just get rentals. Jeffress is a beast and will be a big part of our bullpen for years to come and our catcher situation is solid ( better than almost any team) until 2018.

Every year after we made trades we hated to give up the players. I remember that we were going to hate losing Olt. Then we were going to hate facing Smoak and whoever that shit was that on draft day said he could do better than all our current pitchers. Jury is still out on the haul we gave to PHL, though that one kid got over on us pretty good earlier this year.

Figure that for every 10 "cant miss" prospects, less than 1 actually turn out to be legit stars.
