Jake Plummer is now all excited about how great a Rout runner Taylor is and Mason is saying he agrees Taylor is having another great off season already .. I think he is making #52 Roster ..

I'm starting to doubt that we would come close to sneaking him onto the practice squad again. My biggest worry with him is how much does he actually help on special teams because you need those 5th and 6th guys at the position to be special teams contributors.

That it is but it also means we might have to let some very talented players that could contribute walk out the door. I would hate to have a reverse Brandon Marshall happen to us where we decide they are not quite worthy of being on our team but then they go to another and just dominate.

The WR group is the deepest on the team - it appears to me. I think Latimer gets traded if he doesn't beat out Fowler for the 3rd spot.

Every summer there is a "can't miss" prospect that we all rave about. And it seems more often than not a WR.

Can't keep everyone. The best you can do is keep the most talented of the bunch. I'd say if anything Taylor could knock off Latimer.

Also, wasn't Marshall a guy that Manning was high on as well? I think he was high on Taylor too. A bit of info worth considering.

Yes, Jordan was PM's boy during his rehab lat year and had good things to say. I don't have a friendship with any of these players, so doesn't matter to me who makes the team. But I see two obstacles to Taylor making the 53:
1. With TEs being a focal point of the Kubiak O and the use of a FB on the offense, the likeliest place to reduce a roster spot is at WR - I could see us having 5 rathr than the traditional 6.
2. I'm not aware that Jordan plays special teams - or at least has a history doing so. We already know that Latimer was one of the best in that important role the second half of last season.

If JTaylor makes the 53, great for him and Rice! But it won't be easy...

They also say him and Lynch are already having great chemistry..

a 6'7'' WR would be damn nice to have in the Red zone

The reason I honestly think Latimer is a lock to make the team is because he adds so much to special teams plus his high draft status. Beyond the top-3 guys in Fowler, DT, and Sanders the next group of guys have to be special teams stand outs. I'm just not sure Taylor can be that guy. I like what I hear about this kid and he did make some incredible catches when I went out to Training Camp last year. He is definitely not just all hype. The kid has a lot of talent but how he contributes to the team matters.

Not only that if that big body blocks well too, he has edge over Latimore. Memory serves me right I think Taylor did get some opportunities returning kicks in preseason. Wouldn't be a stretch IMO anyway to see Taylor or somebody else make Latimore expendable. Up until this year, and most notably his wr play, Latimore hasn't been much to jump up and down about. Last season was really his only big play ST acknowledgements since he's been here also. I think he was hearing the noise that it might be his best opportunity to make team anyway going into 2015. Won't surprise me at least, if Lat gets bounced this year.

There is room for both Latimore and Taylor and all the other WR's last year for that matter .. We have the extra spot ..

Did they shrink the roster by 1 this off-season?

I think Taylor will be on the PS again. Might be a good workout guy, but still under underdeveloped. See the strides he makes this year. Gonna be tough for him to crack the 53 IMO without an injury...

Reason why I say this is that he isn't a special teams guy which is what it comes down to after the first few. Something Fowler, Latimer (inside track on #3), Norwood, Addison/Raymond are.

Maybe he will zoom past the others though and not have to worry about it. He just sorta has another half year or so on the PS written on him to me with those things being said which isn't a bad thing. He can continue to grow. He doesn't have the greatest hands in the world but those could have improved since college. We will see if he is the real deal or just another Kasper, Todd Devoe, Darius Watts camp star or not.

Yeah I would say Latimer is nearly a lock to make the team...

It's a make or break season for him as a WR, but he is one of our best special teams players. The #3 job is his to lose, if he loses it he probably gets one more year here due to his special teams play.

Is he a Willie Middlebrook (high draft pick bust who excel as a special teamer so at least he offers something) or is he a Trevor Pryce slow to get off the gates.

I think Latimer may actually be the one player who really benefits from Mannings retirement. He didn't really understand what Manning was doing and maybe the game will slow down for him now.

EXCLUSIVE: Jordan Taylor's one-handed catch

He doesn't have the greatest hands in the world but those could have improved since college.

I just wanted to show everyone how Draft Crazy - like a true professional - built himself a back door out of the observation that Jordan Taylor didn't have great hands. I think they have improved since college. Taylor is an amazing athlete - came to Rice as an all purpose QB (imagine Lynch type) - and really hasn't had many reps in college as a WR. He has shown the drive to succeed - and the athleticism to make plays in the NFL. The WR competition after DT and Manny is going to be ultra fierce with Latimer, Taylor, Fowler and now Marlon Brown. I'd say Norwood is on a thin bubble. On top of that - if Norwood is gone - then Addison or Raymond -get a returner type job and figure in the WR group.
