Darryl Grant's pick 6 that sealed the 1983 NFCCG for the Skins against the Boys, 31-17.

I can't go w/o mentioning the 2nd quarter against the Broncos in the SB though. 5 possessions/35 points scored, the greatest sidplay of offensive football ever seen in a title game. That was glorious. As was DG's TD that sealed the win against the Boys.

Yeah I mentioned Grant's TD in mine too. I was the most excited for that game over any other I can remember, even Super Bowls. After he scored I jumped on my girlfriend and screamed "WE'RE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!!!". Girlfriend is long gone but the memory is there forever.

?? I stated that I don't know of a 50 yr old (on the planet) who had a 40 yd dash time faster than Green's 4.43. I was not referring to this being the fastest ever time for any Redskin. Maybe you are not questioning this but just stating that Portis ran this time, and yes he did. Amongst the fastest ever Redskins were Green, Portis, Bailey and Deion (yuck - hate to classify him as a Redskin).

Although it can't be confirmed it is believed that Green may have ran a sub 4.1 40 in his playing days. It is tough to verify anything like this due to the methods of timing. However - it is possible since he was a world class sprinter who beat the likes of Carl Lewis in his younger days.

Sub 4.1? Wow. Don't forget to add Dung errr Trung Canidate to that list too.

The Skins were totally dominated, playing-wise and coaching-wise in that game. I dunno how many remember, but Allen's run was the very next play after Riggo had been stopped short on a 4th and one at the Raiders 26 yard line. The score was already 28-9 though when Riggo was stopped. I doubt the Skins could've come back to win even if he made it.

The SB loss to the Phins was worse for me. Even though the Phins handled the Skins pretty well that day. There were still a couple plays. A Kilmer pass to an open Jerry Smith in the back of the end zone hitting the goal-post which were still at the front of the end zone atb the time. A wide open Charley Taylor stepping in a divot inside the 5 yard line while heading into the end zone causing him to lose his balance. Which turned what would'e been an on target pass by Kilmer to Taylor for a TD. Into a Kilmer pass just beyond the outstretched hands of a stumbling Taylor. I'm not saying the Skins win that game if either play is a TD, but who knows.

That was the only game I ever cried to.

I was still in grade school at the time but once Hayes punt got blocked, even I could tell it was probably going to be a long day.

I mean we rolled the Rams and survived that Montana comeback along with the pass interference calls at the end of that game, can't remember, I think it was Lott who pushed Monk in the back, and someone also got called for grabbing Charlie Brown as well.

That 83 team was great! I had no idea a beat down like that was coming, but once they blocked that punt, I kinda already knew.

Mark Moseley missing 4/5 FGs imo was the biggest reason the 9ers game was as close as it was and the biggest reason I don't feel bad about the iffy PI calls against the 9ers.

The team that doesn't get the love it deserves is the 91 Redskins. IMO, they would match up well with any of the super teams from the 90s and back.

We all wept as the ultra conservative George Allen, didn't replace the clearly struggling Kilmer with Sonny Jurgensen in a 14-7 loss to Miami in the SB.

That would've been interesting. The 72 season was the year I became a fan, but Billy K was already the Skins starting QB so I didn't know or learn anything about Sonny till 73. WTF was up with George and Sonny? You'd think Allen would love Sonny J, but it never came across like that. In fact, it seemed that Allen had no love whatsoever for Sonny who was clearly a far superior player to Billy K far as QB attributes went.

Yeah, that was real cool no doubt. That play/game, along with the Skins shitting all over the Ring of Honor induction ceremony of the big three on Brunell/Moss's big Monday night. As well as the 35-7 ass paddling the Skins gave Dallas later that season with the playoffs in the balance. The 2006 game the Skins won 22-19 with no time on the clock after Troy Vincent blocked Dallas' game winning FG att and Sean Taylor was facemasked on the return (it wasn't a 15 yarder though). As well beating the Cowboys 27-6 last game in 2007 to win the last wildcard. Being down 27-3 and the Boys went for a 30 yd FG like some lil' bitches instead of a TD.

ALL those games went a long ways for me in erasing some bitter defeats that the Skins suffered to the Boys from the 1970s-2000s. Including the Boys winning 11 in a row or some shit at one time.

Kudos to Brian Orakpo far as the DHall strip/fum rec/TD ret game. As it was a holding penalty against him that negated a Cowboys TD on the last play of that game.

The Skins didn't play the Phins in 73. They did in 74 with Sonny at QB in a Skins 20-17 win. Still, while Sonny ended up injured his first two years with George Allen, 71 and 72. He only started 4 games each in 73 and 74 (year he retired) though he was healthy all 14 games.

And I did see Sonny play in 72. It was against the Cowboys, 6th game of the year, the very 1st football game I ever saw and the first time I saw the Redskins. He got hurt on a roll out pass to the right I believe and there wasn't a player near him.

It was love at first sight for me and it was all about the warrior chief emblem on the helmet. The Skin colors are cool, not the best, that goes to the Raiders. The Skins unis are cool, not the best, that went to Pittsburgh. Nothing though competes or even comes close to the warrior chief on the helmet.

I agree with your assessment though. Would've been nice to see Sonny J as the unquestioned starter. Allen preferred Klmer, at least imo. And once again IMO, I don't think GA liked Sonny very much.

Yes I know Sonny played in 72 but he couldn't play in the Super Bowl due to the injury. You are correct about no one being near him when he got injured. My recollection was he stepped in a divot but hell that was 44 years ago and although I remember him beating the Dolphins clearly I got the year wrong.

For those of us old enough, do you remember the bumper stickers "I like Sonny" and "I live Billy?"

Whiskey was a gamer but certainly not the caliber passer Sonny was. Sadly Allen didn't want to allow Sonny to have that kind of freedom.
