The counter to that is there a plenty of folks who break down film who've never played in the NFL. E.g, McLoughan, Scot. Never even played in college (though his brother and father did).

Yes, but these are trained professionals who do it for a livelihood. There's a reason a lot of GMs even coaches weren't all star level professionals. Just because one was a good player doesn't necessarily mean they know how to coach, evaluate, etc.

Chris Cooley is not the problem here, his name could have been Pooter Butt and the reaction would have been the same. The real issue comes when someone, against the objections of believers, takes a critical look at the team or some part of it. Believing in something, must not ever become a substitute for good judgement. That, in this case, comes from being patient enough to take the time to do exactly what Mr. Cooley has done. Notice that not one person said that Cooley was completely wrong, but, offered alternative views that supported their own desire to see positives. Funny, how Cooley is a great source when he meets that threshold.

Like I said in another thread - there is nothing wrong with any fan (or analyst) disagreeing with any picks or moves from the Redskins organization. Likewise - there is also nothing wrong with having complete faith in SM and his moves. Sure - he will make a few bad ones but overall I trust that he will do the rt thing & think that we are seeing lots of evidence to support that. This ain't the old Redskins - get used to it.

Remember also that - especially in the mid & later rounds - the draft is a risk/reward situation & the success of the draft lies in how you do over time. No team is going to hit on their picks 100% of the time. However - if they even get half of them rt over an extended period & retain these players that team will usually go very far. That is where someone like SM is an asset.

A player like Fuller has a big return vs a certain amt of risk. If he stays healthy he could be a huge asset to this team. If not & say most of the other picks stick then I can live with that. People need to always remember the Redskins dreadful track record in the draft over the last 10-12 years (including the fact that didn't have a lot of those picks). I think that the problem with the Cooley analysis may be - as several have noted here - that he didn't look at a large enough sample. Oh well - doesn't matter - the guy is on the team now & time for him to prove himself - that tape is kind of worthless now.
