our d/line has issues

no way around that people but perhaps we can schem some pass rush by having murphy smith and baker on the d/line gallette coming from the edge and cravens getting an occasional blitz

but yes our d/line is a sore spot

That may be our only chance but I really don't think JB can be that creative. remember he loves the rush 4 drop 7 zone. It will be interesting to see if he will utilize Gallette and Cravens on blitz's. I have my doubts about our Run Def, hate to be negative but we have to face the facts and I don't like what I see. We will need a miracle.

Washington Redskins

1 (22). TCU WR Josh Doctson
2 (53). USC S/LB Su'a Cravens
3 (84). Virginia Tech CB Kendall Fuller
5 (152). Temple DE Matt Ioannidis
6 (187). Indiana QB Nate Sudfeld
7 (232). Boston College LB Steven Daniels
7 (242). Georgia RB Keith Marshall

Overview: On top of this haul, GM Scot McCoughan added fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-round picks in 2017 via trades with Houston, New Orleans, and the Jets. The pre-draft signing of Josh Norman increased McCloughan's flexibility, allowing him to stay true to his board with Doctson and land a high-impact talent at a position that otherwise could have become a huge need as soon as next offseason, when DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon's contracts expire. From the jump, Cravens will be a tone-setting playmaker in the middle of Joe Barry's defense, while Ioannidis profiles perfectly as quality five-technique depth. I was less a fan of the Fuller pick due to his recovery from microfracture surgery, and of the Sudfeld pick because I'm skeptical he'll even make it as an NFL backup. I do think the Marshall pick could prove a steal if Marshall regains his running confidence after losing it over the course of an injury-riddled college career. I also wanted to see McCloughan come out of this draft with a center. The three selections added in next year's draft elevate Washington's grade.

Grade: B+

Dont confuse what he had to do last year with what he loves to do. Our secondary was very weak last year so dropping 7 into coverage was his only option at times. Now that he has a strong secondary, we will see many more blitzes coming from different areas, including the secondary.

Have to disagree.

1. We have no idea where those picks will be. Supposed they end up being in the last three picks in each respective round. Those picks right now are worth about as much as stock options a year before the company goes public. Yes they could be worth alot, or they could be worth nada.

How can you say this? First off I'll take my chances that the Jets, New Orleans etc won't be playing in their conference championship games. But even if they are late picks, which they won't be, with SM's track record in the late rounds to claim these picks will be worth nada is just stupid.

Who pissed in your Corn Flakes this weedend Shark? Just because he didn't pass up better players to find your precious DL does not mean you shouild be trashing his entire draft. Your impatience for the quick fix was the exact mentality that caused this franchise to be a joke for a generation.

VT u must be thrilled with Fuller. I told ya he would be there in the 3rd round. lol. Great pick.

Yeah. You were right on Fuller and Dadi. Surprised Fuller fell that far, great value pick for the good guys. He is a helluva competitor, leader, no-drama local kid who could be special if heard recovers to 100% and stays healthy.

Worst case scenario he is a rotational slot CB and special teamer.

Dude.. IM not scared of Zeke. But I do think he is going to shred our weak D-line like cheese through a wood chipper. I think Dallas will have the same issue as us with a weak D-line... at least early on until they get Gregory and Lawrence back. From a talent standpoint on the D-line, Dallas is currently better than us. Week two will likely be a shoot out where the team that can actually stop the run wins.

I simply dont think that will be us.

Shark-

In all honesty, why do you think the FO neglects the DLine? Do you think they honestly feel comfortable with what we have on the roster now? That scares me if they do. A blind man can see that this is a major concern. Throwing a 5th round pick isn't going to solve the entire problem either. Very strange.

Sharks is reminding me of a guy who is married to a playmate centerfold but complains because she has a high pitch nagging voice. Dude, you need to look at the whole picture. We not only got good graded players we addressed concerns for next year as well plus added picks. I saw above somewhere you wrote that late round picks seldom hit so in reality why stock em up. This may be true... but some do. Like the lottery you gotta pay to play.

So we didn't address the center spot. Kelly was gone before we picked and perhaps, unlike yourself, SM just didn't see much in any others. The season hasn't started yet. Perhaps a more established player is brought in through cuts, or trade. Relax dude, this draft was pretty successful, at least on paper at this point anyway.... but isn't everybody's.

Let's not forget the 2nd center was taken a few picks before our 3rd (I believe that was the round) so maybe that was his plan there. Again you take the best player, the way to win the draft is value and he clearly got value.

Houston actually traded up to get Martin in the 2nd. They gave up a 6th to move up 2 spots. Maybe they thought we were going to take Martin. Which was very feasible.

Again, you can't look at a draft and go the 2nd best center in a class makes him a second round prospect. That is the attitude that gets you Devin Thomas and Malcom Kelly.

SM and the department goes in and looks at tape independently and assigns a grade to the prospect. If there is no value in the slot we are picking, he tries to trade it. That is what this draft was all about. My guess on the DL...he stated the middle rounds had some very good value and what does he get? A DL he may have wanted all a long in Ioannidis. Maybe he didn't see much difference in the guys who went in the 2nd and 3rd and Got his guy in round 5. This is how he builds a team.

Right. we traded out of the 4th round and passed on Billings but we still got the guy we wanted in Ioannidis. Which probably had a higher ranking on SM board.

Scot basically revamped the roster mid season last year and did a hellava job. I'm willing to give him a very very large rope before he Hangs himself. There will be a lot of DLine talent available June 1st

That's how I see it, ioannidis isn't that different from the over rated guys picked way earlier

i have had 24 hours to let this draft sink in . first off we have to get out of this mode that we can fix all needs in one off season . this year it looks like the back end of the defense got upgraded . tackling appears to have a shot at being better with daniels and cravens and ioaniddos

we are younger on the d/line with reyes , hood and murphy and ionnidas . doesnt mean better but pot roast was out of shape and hatcher never gave us what we wanted

that doesnt mean d/line isnt and issue or center isnt

Would love to know if there is a alphanumeric grade you would attach to the over all draft, Thanks!

I am not much for grading drafts because it is all projection. Grade it in three years. Having said that here is Will Brinson of CBS Sports analysis:

Washington Redskins: GM Scot McCloughan makes his hay in the draft and he was churning it out all weekend long. The Redskins stole Josh Doctson in the first round; don't buy into the "they don't need him" stuff, because it's pretty likely they end up cutting Pierre Garcon at this point given his salary cap number. Washington toughened up the defense with the next three picks, grabbing Su'a Cravens (linebacker from Southern Cal), Kendall Fuller (corner from Virginia Tech and a major steal in the third round) and Matt Ioannnidis (Temple defensive tackle in the fifth round).

The Keith Marshall pick, Washington's last selection, is a long shot to pay off but could end up being a home run if he can get some reps on special teams or at running back. He's only behind Matt Jones and Chris Thompson if he can get healthy and make the roster. Washington also stockpiled picks for 2017, a sign that this could continue. There is consistency and smart player acquisition happening with the Washington Redskins, so go ahead and go hide in your nuclear bunker.

I think part of the bitching going on is that this draft was filled with D-Line talent so much that we had the opportunity to draft a WR in first round and pretty much all of us assumed we would address D-Line in 2nd or 3rd round. Now Cravens is a great pick and Fuller if healthy is another good pick but I just wish we addressed the NT position in the first 3 picks. Did we get better in the draft = yes, did we address current needs = yes, did we address future needs = yes, can we fix all problems in 1 draft = no until we start having less then 5 major positional needs per draft. Scot hasn't lead us wrong and even he knows we need to get better at D-Line but that will be addressed in next years FA and draft. We got better after this draft. We won't be making a deep playoff run or maybe not the playoffs this year and I am fine with it because I see that we are continually getting better.

In Scot I Trust. HTTR!!!
