The ball really jumps off of Ian's bat.

When he connects it really does. Just hope this newfound hitting isn't short lived and he doesn't end up back like he was before.

Chi Chi went 7 innings tonight. Only 3 strikeouts, but only 2 hits as well. He did walk 3. He gave up 2 runs.

Profar got another HR tonight. Gallo went 0-3 with a walk and a strikeout.

Really makes me wonder what the plan is for Profar.

Elvis is playing some good baseball right now:thumb:

His high BABIP avg suggests he is going to regress at the plate somewhat, but he is hitting the ball hard so maybe not as much as we might fear.

We need more slugging and homers. Don't want to be relying on stringing a bunch of singles Together.

Darvish exercises option to shorten batting-practice session | SportsDay

Texas Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish, returning from Tommy John surgery, threw 45 pitches in the equivalent of three innings in a batting-practice session on Tuesday.

Darvish had the options of the 45-pitch session or 60 pitches in the equivalent of four innings. Darvish went with fewer pitches because he is scheduled to throw 30 pitches in two innings in his first minor-league injury-rehabilitation appearance.

The Rangers will not set that date until at least Wednesday, when Darvish reproters how he feels after the workout.

Manager Jeff Banister and pitching coach Doug Brocail each said Darvish threw well.

``I like seeing him on a mound, with the baseball in his hand,'' Banister said. ``The ball came out clean.''

What a shame. That was a DP ball.

Really makes me wonder what the plan is for Profar.
I think he gets a full year down on the farm unless there is a middle infield injury. If he shows he is back to form then they have some things to figure out.

I wonder if at some point they decide to keep Brinson art AA all year if they might want Lewis to play at AAA next year. If that is the case then why not try Profar in CF for 2017. Then maybe at 3B while Beltre slides to DH for 2018.

You have to get in front of that ball.

AJ is making good pitches still. They are hitting everything on the ground in that inning.

Good question. Several decisions to be made and that's healthy I think

There's two ways to look at it. If you really and truly believe Profar is the real deal (which I do), Elvis performing like this is a great thing for a couple reasons.

1) we're likely to stick with Elvis all year, and we need him producing like this for us to be contenders.

2) perhaps more importantly, it builds his value. We have all talked about how much of Elvis' contract we would have to eat in order to move him. If he continues to perform (albeit he will regress somewhat) teams will come calling, and that means we will have options, and that means we will be in a much better position to sell. It's kind of a double edged sword because if he does perform well you question whether we should trade him, but if he doesn't then nobody wants him.

I hate to say this because Elvis has been part of the greatest teams in Rangers history, but if you feel Profar is the real deal (which I do) you have to root for Elvis to perform so we can trade him. That does bring up an interesting point about the fact that Elvis is one of the leaders left from that regime of the greatest Rangers teams ever, and may finally be becoming that leader we've always wanted him to be. But there is always the money that we can shed in that scenario and considering what we will have to eat to dump Fielder, I feel like that makes this decision pretty straight forward.

Evan thinks if everyone in the rotation stays healthy that Holland or Perez would go to the pen if Griffin doesn't go back to the minors. He is completely ruling out the possibility that Colby is an odd man out. if Colby has a couple of his clunkers between now and then I don't think that possibility should be discounted. I think they would send Perez to the minors before they mess with him by sending him to the pen. There is no way that anyone other than Evan would think Derek is going to the pen.

Lewis... As in Colby Lewis? That will never happen. I'm just telling you. He'll retire.

Evan just makes me.... :tsk:

That said, I could easily see Lewis going to the pen (though neither he or I would like it) or I could see Perez being sent to AAA (more likely imo) to stay ready for when we need him, which we will.

Brinson.

Haha. I don't think even if Colby would go to AAA that that would help us find a place for Profar.
