Since some posters here are happily posting homer threads, I figured I would counter this spirit with a little good old fashioned Philly-style negadelphia.

To wit: Have the Seattle Seahawks jumped the shark?

Before you answer, consider this:

* Teams that go to back to back Super Bowls tend to drop off considerably in future years.

* The team's emotional catalyst, RB Marshawn Lynch, has retired and was last seen hanging out with Bill Clinton in Oakland.

* The Jimmy Graham trade was clearly a huge mistake.

* An already mediocre offensive line has lost starters Russell Okung and J.R. Sweezy.

* The defensive front lost Brandon Mebane and Bruce Irvin.

Now, Seattle does have a stellar 3/4ths of a defensive backfield. And a smart, young franchise QB. So it is likely to remain in playoff contention.

But have the days of the Seahawks as a championship contending team ended? I'd certainly put my money on Arizona going forward in that same division.

"I ain't got time for no Seahawks Super Bowl talk, me and my boy Bill about to go get some here in Oakland, boss..."

I think its fair to say that, and would assume as we approach the beginning of the season, this will be a pretty popular opinion........

I think the Lynch thing could be a bit overstated, only because Rawls looks like he could step right in and be a pretty explosive weapon

I think the Rams and Niners being dreadful also works in their favor

I think Pete Carroll will be exposed more and more as his roster becomes more and more depleted

With that said, as long as they have Wilson, i think anywhere between 10 and 12 wins is a reasonable expectation for the next few years

But I agree that the SB days may be behind them until they get some reinforcements and draft really well

I think they jumped the shark when they signed that lady with the dreads from The Walking Dead to play CB for them.

While I like Rawls, it is rare to find a running back with the power and durability of Marshawn Lynch. That was a very special back, who perfectly fit the style of offense the Seahawks ran. At a minimum, I think you would need a committee to replace him.

No Doubt about it, he was one of a kind

But you could do worse than Rawls in trying to replace a guy like that

We've had this thread for the past 2 years so its good to see that its back.

-Seattle was +146 in point differential last year and footballoutsiders had them as the 2nd most efficient offense, the 4th most efficient defense and the 3rd most efficient special teams.
-Rawls isn't Lynch but he is good
-Baldwin has improved every year.
-Wilson has improved every year.
-Jimmy Graham is still a weapon
-Lockett looks like a big deal

So what is happening is that their identity is changing a bit. It happened to the Steelers when Big Ben developed.

Those are fair points. Maybe they become more of a balanced, passing offense. But...I doubt that works for them.

I think they've lost their edge against bully teams. Panthers and Vikings can just be more physical than them. Rams could theoretically, too, but the Rams moving to a Western timezone should actually work to Seattle's advantage and the Rams have major holes right now.

That said, Seattle still has all of the pieces in play and will be right there in the playoffs every year. So they are in a tier with the Packers and Cardinals currently, imo.

Biggest question is that O-line.

I could definitely see a season drop off as the re-tool as a passing O continues. We'll see.

Heh on Carroll being 'exposed.'

How so? This is definition per Wikipedia:

"Jumping the shark" is an idiom popularized by Jon Hein that was used to describe the moment in the evolution of a television show when it begins a decline in quality, signaled by a particular scene, episode, or aspect of a show in which the writers use some type of gimmick in an attempt to keep viewers' interest, which is taken as a sign of desperation, and is seen by viewers to be the point at which the show strayed irretrievably from its original formula. The phrase is based on a scene from a fifth-season episode of the sitcomHappy Days when the character Fonzie jumps over a shark while on water-skis.[1][2][3]

So, I would argue that Seattle is now at the point of 'straying from its original formula'. Jimmy Graham was arguably the Fonz on water skis moment to be sure, so it arguably happened a while back.

Laughing at Eagles fans dissing Seahawks.

Sort of like why midgets don't like basketball.

I guess I could be a punk fan who follows Seattle only after the Raiders fall off though right?

Honestly, Beast wasn't very Beastly last year at all. Rawls was the better back until he got hurt. So as much as I love me some Lynch I don't think the drop off will be as bad as people think. Plus his departure frees up a bunch of cash that the Hawks can definitely use to get some O-line help. That is the most glaring need right now.
